    cardboard back or no?

do you guys use a cardboard backing when shooting outdoors? i am building a target stand with 1x2 or 2x2 stakes to staple to. would it be wise to use a cardboard backing for any reason?

    Thanks.

Do you go anywhere there is wind? If so cardboard backing is a must for outdoor paper targets. Personally I am going to steel for outdoor use-set up once no taping or target change out.

I've also been trying to determine cost effectiveness of steel vs paper

I always use a cardboard backing. As mentioned helps to support target in wind.

Consider the plastic cardboard type for backing. I have switched to this as a backing for my target stands, and love the durability of that product.

It will handle all weather, and will last many, many times longer then regular cardboard. I can also get those metal stakes that slide in between the two layers, and now just stick into the ground!
I have quite a bit of steel and that has its place.
Plastic cardboard...... The best backing I have ever used.
