Sorry if this seems overly-basic, but I searched for information on 3-Gun Match shooting, and didn't find much in the way of how the sport works. Mostly I saw threads of just people asking for "the best gear". So I want to preface a bit before I get into the meat of my questions.
I've got exactly 1 handgun, 1 shotgun, and 1 rifle. This was my self-imposed limit on myself before I started buying my own firearms, and I'm sticking to it. I like what I've got, and I don't plan on selling and buying to replace any of them. However, because I've 1 of each type, I was intrigued when I learned of the existence of 3-Gun Matches. But other than the existence of said matches, I don't really know much about them, how they work, what their rules are, etc. I'd like to learn more, and maybe even try a match out sometime, assuming there's like a newbie/novice category. I don't expect to even come close to placing, much less winning; I just want to have fun learning to shoot my guns in conjunction with each other. Essentially my desire in investigating 3-Gun shooting is to see if it's a way to improve my skills and marksmanship with what I have.
But there's not a lot of information on how to get involved, or how to get started, what the rules and set-up of a match consist of, or anything else that might presume a total ignorance of the sport on the part of a prospective shooter. Most of the websites I found through Google were announcements of matches or tailored to how to get the best performance guns for matches; i.e. they all sort of presumed a preexisting knowledge of the sport.. Does anyone have any good links or resources on what a total novice would need to know? Thanks!
