I'm a Hodgdon Universal (Clays) fan and luckily have had enough to get through the dry spell over the last year or so of Hodgdon not being able to manufacture enough of it. So I called them directly today and their reloading department "guy" told me it'll be delayed until at least the end of the summer before its available in stronger numbers again. I know this isn't "new" news, but I just wanted to post a current update on it.

It's not Hodgdon Clays, but I saw some Alliant Clay Dot #1 and #8 for sale on Powder valley the other day. I kind of regret not buying 25# of it.Comment

UNLESS you are reloading for shotgun, STAY AWAY from clay dot. I know, IT is a DOT powder! So it must be good like red, green, or blue dot right? NO. When I looked for data sometime last year there was NOTHING to support that it worked for pistols. This is the only reason why I would have bought it.
I was thinking, Yeah, I can MAKE it work. NO. I am glad I did not purchase it and you most likely dodged a bullet as well...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

They said "this summer" this time, last year. "This summer" has come and gone. I still have 3-4 lbs of UC's left but I'm not holding my breath.
All the same, thanks for the update... A lot of people will be happy if it starts showing up again..Aloha snackbar!Comment

Note that "Clays" =/= "Universal Clays". Clays is much faster powder than Universal Clays...with International Clays between. In a nutshell, Clay Dot competes with Clays, International Clays competes with Green Dot and Universal Clays competes with Unique.
You didn't look very hard. Though "wildcatting", a lot of folks have had good luck with Clay Dot as a pistol powder.UNLESS you are reloading for shotgun, STAY AWAY from clay dot. It wouldn't be my first choice due to little published data, but ......Last edited by JagerDog; 01-29-2015, 11:29 PM.Palestine is a fake country

i'd be the first to tell you not to trust some shmoe on the web, but i've been using alliant clay dot for 9mm and 45 acp for months now.
starting loads seemed a little weak but that's a good thing.NRA Range Safety Officer pistol and reloading instructor

It is trickling in now. There's a lot of pent up demand. The "this Summer" in the OP was when they expect to have the backlog filled.Palestine is a fake country
