    Single Stage Press Suggestions

I'm looking to add a Single Stage (SS) press to my Hornady LNL AP. Initially for de-capping the boxes of cases I've saved over the years and then to get into reloading for my rifles (7mm-08, 6.5x55mm, .303)

While I would love a Forster Co-Ax, I balk at the cost.

Doing a lot of research, I've narrowed it down from my original candidates...RCBS Rockchucker (RC), Hornady L-N-L, Lee Classic Cast (CC)...to the Lee CC (mostly based on spent primer handling) and installing my Hornady Conversion Bushing. However...

...the RCBS Summit keeps calling me also. It has the cool factor of the Co-AX, has a small footprint on the bench, will accept the Hornady Conversion Bushing, and is only $50 more than the Lee CC

Does anyone have any experience with the Summit press...positive or negative?

Is it worth the extra $50 over the other SS presses...actually, $25 over the LNL and about even for the RC?

    Thanks in advance

RC hands down. You will find that no matter what other presses folks buy, they never feel the need to upgrade their single stage RC. I have never heard of an RC that didn't run forever. Love mine.

I've had my CC for over 15 years and it still is perfect. Save the money and you'll never look at those green machines again.

The summit press is cool because it can be converted into an arbor press if you have hand dies. Its on sale these days for cheap. I bought mine specifically for the small unique foot print and the fact that it doesn't hang below the table. Im used to reaching into the front of the press on my ultramag. Instead of pulling the slot machine underhanded, you are pulling over and down like the coax press.

The main reasons to buy the summit press are the unique footprint and ergonomics. I don't have any negatives other than cost. I could live without it.

When I reach for a spare single stage for a quick and dirty job, especially for decapping (even large quantities), I grab my Lee handpress 99% of the time. The handpress is hard to beat for dedicated decapping.

I would buy an old 80s rock chucker. The old ones feel as nice as the high end Redding SS

Personally if I could do it all over again, I'd have a Redding T-7 and a Lee Handpress. Sometimes I regret not having just one heavy duty turret due to the ease of switching dies/avoiding resetup each time (yeah I have quickchange bushings but this is just the right tool for the job). I was very space constrained when I started reloading and the summit got me through those times.

Hands down the RC. You could hand it down to your gerandkids.

Rock Chucker. But for de-capping, I use one of these, so I can relax and watch TV at the same time.

Once you get going with it, you get pretty fast. I use a guide from an RCBS primer pocket de-burring tool to start the pistol cases.

RCBS. I have a RC for sizing and a Jr for seating bullets and decaping. I use to use the RC for everything but now I like the Jr for seating especially because it gives me more feel.

Rock Chucker. Had mine for almost 30 years. Started on a friends before that. Works great.

That said, any of the presses OP mentioned would probably work fine for years.

If OP is near any of the reloading clubs, maybe drop in to see what those folks are using, and try them before buying.

Have been using Redding Big Boss II, no complaints.

Rc, I have one and would not get anything else unless it was maybe a turret but a 650 deters me from getting any other progressive like presses.
