New IMR 4166 tester needed

Just got a bunch of this new powder. Kinda pricey].Seeing if someone local is willing to try [on me] and give some info on it. Preferably on at least 2 calibers and some different weights with a chrono. Cleanliness and metering also a concern. I just do not have the time and am still trying out 4064 loads. Thanks,

Sounds like the CFE223. Which is my only rifle powder right now. I use it for 223 and 308. Difference I guess is that the CFE223 is a ball powder whereas this is apparently extruded. Ball meters better, but extruded tends to be single base. One thing I noticedd about the CFE223 is that it doesn't like to be loaded down. If you don't get the pressures high enough, it gets sooty. Run it hot though and it is clean and consistent.

I am going to try it in the 308 and 243 Win and maybe the 223. along with some wildcats I shoot.

based on the load data I am seeing, this will have a burn rate somewhere between IMR 4064 and IMR 4320.

this should work perfectly when my 6.5x47 lapua is finished.

From the data I've looked at on the Hodgdon site for reloading 308 Winchester, IMR4166 seems to be in the 8208XBR / 4895 range.

Hmm. A couple of other enduron powders being offered as well. But slower than the 4166

I just got the official word concerning Burning Rates from IMR:


IMR 4166 has a burning rate almost the same as imr 4064

IMR 4451 is almost identical to Imr 4350

and IMR 7977 has a burning rate about the same as H1000

I've got loads all ready to test in .223 for a bolt gun and an AR, and .308 for a POF P308...waiting on a sunny day when the chrono will work.
