    I finally found powder!

I have been shooting factory for about 3 months because i could not find powder. The cost was really starting to make shooting less fun.

I am still new to reloading so this is the first powder shortage i have experienced. Every time a talk to someone who has been reloading for a long time they have told me they are set on powder because they have always stocked up after getting nailed by a shortage sometime in the past.

Well i finely found pistol powder! Picked up 12 pounds. From now on i am stocking up.

Edit: 8lbs Bullseye , 4lbs Power Pistol. I payed around $20 per pound with tax.

Cabela's had powder the day before yesterday.
Grabbed a 5#er of blue dot real fast.
I know Cabela's doesn't have the cheapest prices but you make it back in shipping and points.

Angeles reloading store received a bunch. I called in then showed up there 2 hrs before it went on sale. The line was short in the end but i was not taking any chances. I was really trying to avoid using resellers. I was getting weak, then found some just in time.

Congrats on the find. 12lbs of pistol powder will last you a few years unless your shooting about 3-5k rounds a year

84,000 grains. Depends on the powder and caliber but let's just say an average load is 5 grains to keep the math easy. That's 16,800 rounds. I think he'll be set for a while.

I'd rather have powder and not need it than need powder and not have it.

You know what sucks about having powder? Having 51 lbs and it is spread among 30 different ones...

So when you find a good powder, buy a few bottles, not one here or one there...

But please do not buy from any of these douche-nozzles...

The general idea is if one company receives a certain batch of powders, you will see everyone else get them a few days or a week later. Bullseye, power pistol, blue dot, unique, red dot, 4227 cfe223, varget as usual, Lil gun, clay dot have been hitting shelves for the past week.
I have been waiting for alliant 2200 for awhile and when my distrib got it, it was time to buy!

Stilly and I can agree that blue dot gets skipped a lot and it is so versatile. Like I mentioned in another thread it is my primary go to powder when w231/hp38, is being bought up for factory ammo than I'd much rather use blue dot. It isn't an economical powder and has high charge and meters so well. I rarely get a +/-.1 on it unless it is the first drop. You can never double a charge unless it is a long straight walled case. I should really consider making gallery loads off it for future reference.

I only keep 16# of w231 on hand and have 15 # of blue dot incoming. Alliant has really been pushing it hard this year with the pistol powder shortage. Next year should be a better year for you new reloaders. With so many having a larger stock of powder there should be more available.

I know 700x and 800x have been available for a few hours when checking gunbot. With that by next spring pistol powder will be more available. Unless, obummer plans to do more outrageous things or we have more new reloaders.

I got burned in 2009. Taught me a lesson. That didn't happen to me again in 2013.

Same applied to .22LR ammo. I bought a brick every month, whether I needed it or not, for three years. These are those 550-count bulk packs that Federal makes. Of course, I was giving the "Assault .22" (see note below *) plenty of exercise throughout all this, so I'd use the "first in, first out" method for ammo usage. Today, I still have a whole lot of that ammo, and the Assault .22* therefore continues to get plenty of exercise.

Do the same with powders. When you see something you happen to use normally, at a fair price, just pick up some. Case in point: a few months before the tragedy at Sandy Hook, I found out about a guy who was having trouble unloading an 8lb jug of Titegroup. Seems folks around here use Bullseye, W231, and Unique. Well, I happen to use Titegroup for "normal" .45 Colt as a primary powder, and it's also my backup powder for .38 Spl., so I was glad to help him out. Today, I'm really glad I did that.

                            - T

                            * "Assault .22" (noun): a bone-stock, $200 Ruger 10/22, all examples of which are "capable of accepting High Capacitly Clips!"
