Lee makes a .50 cal single stage press, that would make .338 loading much less ackward.

Actually, just the seater die needs modification.

Of course the Lee 50 BMG press has the same problem, but it's not as easy to fix as the whole press would need to be milled open.

              ?? What's the issue with the press/die mod(s)?

I've used my Lee Classic Cast press to load .338LM with the Forster die set and didn't have any problems. What did you have to mill open?

On a Dillon 650, the press window is not as large.
The dies hang down 1/2" or more into the press frame window.
Chopping off the bottom of the seater die gives additional clearance to set the bullet on the case before you run the shellplate up, pushing the case into the die.

The same thing occurs on the Lee classic cast when loading 50 BMG, but there is not extra room to shorten the bottom of the 50 seater...

Any of you guys in or around San Jose/Campbell/Los Gatos, and might be willing to show me the ropes and we'll have a reload 338 LM party? I'll buy supplies for 200 rounds.

I'll buy lunch and/or dinner and beer.
