So I just recently picked up my Rossi 92 in .357/.38 with a 20" barrel. I don't have any experience reloading .357 for a rifle, or for a handgun for that matter. Anyone have any general powder recommendations for loading .357 with a 20" barrel?

2400 and or H110
If you want to drive cast bullets 2400 is the best
H-110 if you want to drive jacketed
Both are very good -
Lots of powders can be used in that gun. I’d mention some pistol powders but they’d probably be sold out. Unique, red dot, blue dot, trail boss, 4227/w296/h110 mentioned earlier, Bullseye, titegroup, clays (almost any), Look at a burn rate chart to see if any powders you are unfamiliar with are similar to what you have experience with and start your search from there. With the shortage going on your more likely to find some obscure powder which can work.https://www.youtube.com/user/mannyCA

I've used Alliant 2400 and Accurate #9 with very good results.Comment

The good thing about 357 is that it is a pretty forgiving cartridge to reload. There are a TON of different recipes out there. To get full magnum power, you will have to use the powders listed above (H110/Win 296/IMR 4227) with a jacketed bullet. Since my brother has the Puma branded version of your gun, I can tell you that the only thing bullet wise that it likes to feed is Round Nose Flat Point. The brand should not matter as long as it is that bullet shape. What runs in your gun may vary, but I have not been able to find anything else that works.
My current favorite loading of 357 is a light load using Trail Boss as the powder under a hard cast or plated bullet. It's bulky, meters extremely well, and I don't consider it too pricey for what you get out of a 9 oz bottle.
I just tried some Titegroup in some loads the other day and they seemed to shoot fine out of my revolver under a 158gr plated bullet. Probably not the most ideal powder for a 357, but it works.
One thing to keep in mind is if you also own a revolver to not mix up a higher velocity/pressure batch that you made specifically for the rifle. What works in the rifle could potentially kaboom the revolver if it's too hot.Comment

I've been using 2400 to load cast bullets for revolver, lever, and single shot rifle with much success.

I load and shoot the same rounds in both my revolver and rifle.

Rossi 92 here (16" bbl). I use 2400 with a 158gr LRNFP. The boolit style is Lee's 358-158-RF, which has a significant meplat, and it has fed very well.
I also have used a 170gr Keith-style LSWC with the same powder."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"
