    Dillon 650 slinging powder

My friend ended up getting a Dillon 650 w case feeder for 223 and a redding T7 for the 270 rounds( and others later).

The 650 is set up but going from one station to the next it has a tendency to spring into that location, spilling powder from the case.

Is this common? Is there a fix? It was bought through Brian enos but I figured I would put it out here first.

Second, maybe a third of the time between the case being lowered and making it into the shell holder the case falls over or gets stuck( before the case rim rides the rails to the shell holder) once again just want to see if anyone else has had this issue.

    Now for the 270

    Redding T7 and redding dies

It seems excessively hard to full length resize. Going in it has a hard part about 75% through the case going in.

Coming out it is pulling the neck sizer out that almost takes the hand of god to get back out.

    Is this normal?
When I have done other calibers (x39 and x54) on my lee single stage it is no where near this hard.

Also I put the 270 on the lee and it is even harder because the T7 has much better leverage.

    Any input appreciated.

    Thanks

I am in the habit of putting my finger over the case with powder and "easing" the spring action with a tiny bit of pressure on the case.

Not ideal but it works for me.

The other thing that works for me is now loading 45colt instead of 9mm, no way that powder is getting thrown out of the case

I tried trimming the spring and while it did work I later began having alignment issues with the priming system which were all cured by putting a full size spring back in. I've never heard of Dillon suggesting that.

I hook my little finger around the case as it progresses so it can't snap into place. It works great and becomes really easy once you get used to it. There are also bearing kits on ebay that are supposed to fix it but I've never tried any.

As for the case falling over is that only the .223 cases? If so the black block that pushes the case into the shellplate can be flipped so that it's taller for rifle cases. If you've already done that I'd make sure the press is securely mounted and not moving too much.

You can try to tighten the shellplate bolt a bit. It helps...

Don't over-tighten it though. That's a good way to break the plastic indexer below the shellplate.

I've never had that problem on my 650, (which I've had for only a couple of weeks) but have read about it on numerous forums. Most common suggestion I've seen is to snip the spring, as someone indicated above.

Another option that I've read about is that you can adjust the alignment of the indexer block to stop this. Apparently, an out of alignment indexer block may not advance the shellplate holder fully, and the spring and bearing snap it the final millimeter or 2, causing the abrupt jump that causes powder to spill.

BTW, the manual actually includes a troubleshooting section, which actually identifies 9 possible causes for "Hard or Incomplete Indexing"

It's also got a number of possible causes for "Case Insertion" problems.

If you don't have your manual at home, a PDF can be found here:

Page 43 has the relevant info.
