Why are some .308 Win primers larger???

    Why are some .308 Win primers larger???

    I just picked up a bunch of .308 brass. Why are some of the primers larger??
    the one on the left is 5.65 mm and the one on the right is 6.72mm.

    I will guess that the one on the left is Boxer primed and the one on the right is Berdan primed. Look down the neck of the case ans see if the flash holes are different. Boxer will have one centered flash hole and the Berdan will have two smaller ones 180 degrees apart and off centered from each other.

      How did you measure a primer still in the case?
      standard large rifle primer diameter is .210
      berdan is .217 though there are larger sizes about .254

        Colt makes a .308 round with zinc-plated case and Berdan primer.

            I personally wouldn't bother with them. Steel cases and Berdan primers CAN be reloaded, but probably not worth the hassle in such a common caliber.
