New Giraud Three Way handheld trimmer

With all the trimmer threads going around, thought this was an interesting new product. Trims/chamfers/deburrs all for $90 each (1 caliber)

Wish this was around when I had 5,000 lake city brass to trim. I ultimately went with the Dillon Rt1200, but I would have seriously considered this if it was available.

Maybe one of the reloading clubs will pick one up and compare to other hand held trimmers out there. Would be interesting to compare results.

Nice. Even though I bought a Giraud trimmer back in 2007, I might buy one of these just to try out.

I smell a shootout coming between the NEW Trim It with the three way cutting blade and this, although this ends up much less money. Paging Big Bronco!

I like the set up. Uses the same cutting head as the big trimmer...

          Was I summoned?

Looks like an other good design. I think it may be a good buy for anyone only working with one caliber or one that falls into it's cartridge family. I may just have to check one out first hand.

Both the Trim-it and the Giraud appear use the same type of cutting bit. The Giraud is preset while the Trim-it will need to be set.

The price point of the Giraud is very attractive. I think if the bearing is a press fit it may just trim a bit truer with out rotating the case like needs to be done with the Trim-it.

The big question is which trimmer would be easier to set up. I do like the Micro adjustment on the Trim-it. For the most part I don't see us using either make of the three way trimmers in the work shops as students need to learn the basics and to do things manually. We may have them available to try out though.

Now the big question is are there enough interested people for me to see about a group buy for these? I will contact them Monday to see if they will send one for review or if they will consider bulk sales.

My Giraud is supposed to ship sometime this month. Speaking of which, I better call them to make sure my credit card number hasn't changed since I got a replacement card in the several months since I ordered.

I have a drillpress operated one that works OK, but I'm hoping the Giraud is easier.

I really despise the sound of a hand power drill, I couldn't stand to use one to trim.

Here is MY take. Giraud can go **** themselves. To ME this is a tactic that they have pulled out to try to get the upper hand again. Folks LOVED their stuff but it was so pricey that not everyone could afford it. Instead of reducing their price to compete with the others (which they did not need to) they kept it high because they knew nobody was coming after them anytime soon. THEN they get ambushed by the new EZTRIM-IT and they realize that all kinds of folks are now gonna go THAT way since the EZTRIM-IT folks decided to make a tool that competes with the Giraud tool. Not only that, but in my opinion, they beat it because the price difference was HUGE. So now Giraud goes to the playbooks, pulls out the INTEL vs AMD playbook and decides to release their trimmer head on a portable body and drop the price way down to just a few dollars over the competition? Oh **** that. Why did they wait so long in the FIRST place? Capitalism... They wanted to soak up as much money as they could from people. I applaud the capitalistic way, but I wonder how much GREED had to do with that decision as well? Isn't reloading about saving money and being good people to one another? I mean, an armed society is a polite society, but reloaders are also nice and ARMED reloaders are even NICER than the Honda people. Well, there is this one guy named Highlan- ERR, but anyways, there ARE exceptions to every rule I guess...

So, MY loyalty is with EZTRIM-IT. They better get their design locked down though because I aint a patent attorney, but if Giraud is gonna go for the patent on this stuff, who knows if it means that the others that are similar can then get sued out of business... I hope I am wrong, but I see it as a race now. I am cheering for Team EZTRIM-IT. They made a tool similar to the Giraud and charged NOTHING near what the Giraud sells for.

THEY are the heroes in the reloading world.

Not when you consider multiple cartridges. The trim-it will only be $15 for an additional cartridge, where the Giraud will be an additional $90. The Trim-it also has a lot more cartridge choices available.

IIRC, the Gracey trimmer came out before the Giraud trimmer, and was probably the first truly powered case trimmer.

That being said, I have no idea what it takes to manufacturer the Giraud powered trimmer. Whether Doug Giraud is hand building these things himself in his garage, or if Doug Giraud is paying someone to build them for him to his spec, either way, there's overhead of either money or time. If I were in his situation, I'd want to make enough money off of each unit to make it worth my own time to manufacturer and sell them.

That being said, to go out and say that the man can go F himself is pretty harsh considering he isn't doing anything in particular that would be considered shady or unethical.

Repurposing his own cutter for a cordless drill / drill press? It only made sense. Did Doug Giraud hold out just to mooch as much money off of his GTC Power Trimmer unit sales? I highly doubt it. Considering the GTC Power Trimmer is still in high demand, it's probably not his motive. If anything, making his new trimmer/cutter unit will help him satisfy the people who like his cutter design, but want to bring their own motor.

Yeah, maybe they should sell for a nickel what it cost them a dime to make. They can always make it up in volume.

Or do what Amazon does and sell at a loss and make it up after everyone else goes out of business.

True, but if you are a typical AR guy with tons of .223 to do mainly, the Giraud looks appealing, some people only have one or two calibers to deal with, not 18 like I do ;-)

As for me, I now have a bunch of CTS Trimmers and the Trim It, I won't be buying the Giraud because I have my bases covered.
