I also thought I'd mention that they do make 32 ACP inserts for some 30 caliber rifles. (definitely make them for 30-06)

It's not as time-consuming as making your own but not as fun either. Just thought I'd mention it...

Ballistics/caliber/chambering etc. for 30-06 are pretty similar to my Arisaka 7.7x58mm Type 99's, I should think about trying something along these lines myself. I don't have trail boss, but I have the next best thing, which is VV N32C Tin Star. I've never let my kids shoot these because they can be brutal on the shoulder with regular loads.

13 grains of red dot in a 30-06 with a 150 jword gave me 1400 fps. Trail boss and 150 jwords gave me 1200 fps. I now only shoot my own cast 180 fp plain base in the 30-06 and 30-30. I am using 9.6 grains of herco shotgun powder for both rifles. Boolits are lubed with Cred to 0.311". I get 1300 fps from the 30-30 in my early 70's win 94 lever gun. It has the short barrel. I used this load in the 30-30 to tie for fist place in a local silhouette match out to 100 yards, last month. I pegged 5 out of 10 chickens at 100, 8 chickens at 50, 8 pigs at 85, and 8 turkeys at 100 yards. It is a light recoiling load with much less noise than a full power load.

Red dot works well, also. I used 6.0 grains of red dot under a 150 plain base round nose cast boolit in 30-30 and I ran the same boolit in the 30-06. I shoot out to 165 yards with these light to mid loads. Many people will go even lighter on the boolit, even below 100 grains.

There is a wealth of info on these types of loads over on the castboolits forum. We just kind of scratch the surface here on calguns.

Tonight I powder coated some of the 30 cal boolits and others to see how they perform.
