wolf ammo

will wolf ammo wear out an OLL cal. 223 or 5.56 ? if so what parts wear out ,and how quickly will they wear out using wolf ammo compared to other brands. any input would be great. thanks

Wolf ammo is fine. It won't wear anything out any faster than brass cased ammo. The only issue is chambering a round in a hot(I mean HOT) barrel and letting it cool in there. In that case, the polymer will melt, and the case will stick in the chamber. But, how often do you cook off two to three hundred rounds, chamber another one, and set the gun down to cool.

Someone at Ammo Brothers told me not to shoot the Wolf in a AR type rifle ,it would wear out the chamber.


I've shot about 200 round of the stuff without a single problem. They could be trying to get me to buy thier ammo. I've had bad luck with thier reloads ,in 223 only .

I use my rifle ,but i don't abuse it,so i like to let it cool a littil after 30-40 rounds.

the polymmer tends to build up on the firing pin which causes missfires.so just make sure and do full cleanings after shooting.some other better certified experts will be along shortly with more input.the guys here on cal guns know there stuff.

You will get a lot of people claiming that Wolf is manufactured by the devil himself. I was at a range today and the range master was talking about a guy with a mini 30 who was shooting Wolf. Apparently, he had a bunch that wouldn't fire but as soon as he switched to PMC, all his problems cleared up. The range master showed me the cartridges that this guy had run through his rifle; not a single one had a primer strike. I guess the firing pin was too scared to strike the ammo I've used it in a variety of guns/calibers and it always goes bang.

No worries with it. I have had it gunk up the firing pin but a quick cleaning fixes it. I figure with the money I saved shooting it, use to get it for 11cents a round! I paid for a couple new rifles anyways. Accuracy is nothing great, but good enough.

the ONLY problems with wolf:

1. bimetal jackets are the devil's plot
2. the red crap that seals the primer gets everywhere. it is great ammo for SHTF since it guarantees that your primers will go bang, but it also means that CLP alone won't cut it. You'll need to use solvent.

You forgot it's dirty, smelly and inaccurate...

You should be extra diligent about cleaning the chamber.

I like Wolf for what it is... It's a shame they don't make the copper jacketed versions anymore.

I find it hard to justify $5.50/box Wolf when $6.90/box XM193 is available (and reloadable).

That's just plain BS.

In fact, brass ammo is most likely to wear out a chamber because it actually expands more than the steel ammo. The steel used in wolf ammo is very low grade and very soft, but it's still stronger than brass and because of that it doesn't properly expand to fit the chamber and create a good gas seal that brass ammo does.

This is not a problem, it's just a fact.

Wolf *IS* crappy, low-grade, inaccurate ammo. But it will NOT harm your gun or wear out your chamber.

I have been shooting wolf for years and finally had my first incident yesterday. I was shooting my SKS and a round failed to ignite. I reached for the charging handle to eject it and then suddenly it fired. Might have broke my thumb if it went off a second later. Always keep your weapons pointed in a safe direction.

I've had some issues with Military Classic in my SKS. I would have a hard primer strike and nothing 5-6 out of 10 loaded. So then I would load up Black box and bang every shot. I read that SKS's are having problems with M.C. because the primers are set too deep in the pocket. Not sure what it was but Wolf gave me my money back. As for the other ammo they have I got no complaints.

So it's safe to say Wolf steel case ammo is ok to shoot in my OLL AR style rifle,again i have had no problem shoot the stuff. I'm just concerned about the chamber wearing myth.

If all that happens , is that it get a little dirty, more than other ammo brands
than i have no problem using it . If it take more time to clean than so be it.

My thoughts on Wolf ammo, it is cheaper than regular ammo, and it is only for the SHTF scenarios. If the libs are rioting in the streets and a little "community organizing" becomes necessary, Wolf will work just fine. In that situation, you probably wouldn't stick around to collect your casings anyway.

where did you find the XM193 at that price? all i can find is arounf $8

You should always give it a second after a misfire for just that reason! Good reminder for everyone.
