    Bullet weight

    Hey all

I haven't reloaded in about 2 years so when I got back to it I started to review everything, bullets, charge weight, primers...

My dilemma is with the bullets, I just don't remember what weight they are so I weighed one on my kitchen scale. (Can't find my notes since the move)

.25oz or .007kg so here is my issue, that converts out to 108 grains. I am 99% certain they are 124 grn RN Zeros from Powder Valley
Let's assume I am wrong and they are 115 grn, is 108 within tolerances?

Dumb question, what should a 115 grain bullet weigh?

    Confused from San Diego

He wasn't asking for a conversion.

Your bullets should weigh plus or minus within 1 grain.
I have no idea why a zero bullet would weigh 109gr.

          dear confused...

Please pick up an American Weigh Gemini Pro 20 gram scale and weigh all you want in grains...

115gr bullets should weigh 115gr. If you need to convert to a LARGER scale, consider that your accuracy might be heading south when you convert to say, GRAMS or OZ. It is like comparing adding a 1lb ball to a TON, will you tell a difference? No, so please get a smaller capacity scale to use for a more precise measurement. This is why pill makers and jewelers use smaller scales to measure things and not a bathroom scale. It is about being accurate and you are more accurate saying 114.98 grains then you are saying .12oz

If you don't have a precision scale handy, which you should if you are reloading, take a sample of 10, 20, or a hundred bullets and weigh them on the scale you have. Do the math and you should be able to determine with a reasonable degree of accuracy if they are of a known weight such as 115 or 124 grains.....

              Thanks everyone for the input

So I went out and weighed about 12 more and they all came in at .008 kg which converts to 123.46 grains. So maybe I am ok actually. Not sure why the first one weighed .007 but I will rest easy tonight

              Thanks

Wait a sec. I do not get it. You have the ability to measure thousandths of kg or whatever, but you can not just convert to grains? I must have missed the message in this thread...

If you use crap bullets like Xtreme or Hornady, +/- a grain is common. Zero bullets have much tighter tolerances.

If you shoot the best bullets you can buy they adjust the lead so it sits at a specific height in the jacket. This means you can order 105 grain bullets and get bullets that weigh 106 or 104 grains but they will all be very similar in weight.

are you measuring pistol powder on the kitchen scale as well?
