    Home made bullet lube

I was in need of some bullet lube for my .300 blackout, and instead of buying it I decided to make some.

After reading around on bullet casting forums, I decided to make some lube with lithium grease and bees wax. 2 pounds of bees wax, 1 pound of valvoline lithium general purpose grease, and 4 oz of caranauba wax to harden it up.

I shot 50 rounds of 130 grain cast gas checked sized to .311 bullets over 18 grains of h110 through my .300 blackout upper and I was getting 2.5-3 inch groups at 100 yards with a red dot, and when I cleaned the rifle, there was no leading whatsoever in the barrel.

Just wanted to share my lube recipe, the stuff stinks like hell, but it works great.

Great recipe! Anything with beeswax, and something to soften it seems to work. haven't had the pleasure of using carnuba wax yet. I hear it also has some magical properties like beeswax.
I won't be doing much pan lubing any longer now that I powder coat. its less messy, fool proof, and you can push them way faster than any lube. I've gone up to 2400 fps so far in a 308, but I also used a gas check.

      Anyway. Good job!

I mixed 99% Isopropyl alcohol with pure Lanolin oil, I mix it 8/1 in a spray bottle. It's been working fine in my Dillon 1050 and 650, I also use it with my RCBS AmmoMaster.

        Lanolin oil. $7.65

        99% isopropyl alcohol. $6.86

You can also go to Home Depot and get a 32oz of wire pulling lube for about $8.00.

Works just the same and the cost is dirt cheap.

The O/P is posting about Cast Bullet lube, not Case Lube.

i use the 45/45/10 alox/jpw/mineral spirit recipe with the Lee 230 boolit for my .300 Whisper.
good for you for making your own with success. I suggest when you are out of gas checks that you start Powder Coating those light boolits.
the heavy slow one does well with just the lube.

I use white label Cred lube. It is less than 2 bucks per stick, but I bought two pounds last time, so that dropped the price to an equivalent of a buck a stick. I thought about making my own, but I will stick to making the bullets and supporting another castboolits member by buying his lube.

I've used the same formula like 3006MV, 45/45/10 mix. Success wise it's mixed for me. It's decent enough for a plinker bullet and accuracy is decent enough. Lately I've epoxy coated several 9mm LEE 125 grain TL bullets. The LEE tumble lube design bullet seems to be perfect for the epoxy application since the smaller and numerous lube grooves retains the coating much better from my observation. I have not fired the bullets but hopefully this weekend I would. I'm hoping that I get the same results like others, no leading, and easier cleaning of the barrel. I've already done the "push through the barrel test, drop test, and hammer test" which the coating remained intact.

aka slugging. Gives me a rough idea how well the coating I applied holds up going through the rifling. Of course firing it and recovery of the bullet would be the ultimate test.

make yourself a boolit trap using landscape rubber mulch. it stops them and you can recvover them easily, not much deformation.
