First time reloading

I haven't needed to crimp any rounds for my semi autos - ARs, Mini 14, M1 Garand or .30 carbine, or any of my bolt actions rounds either, and haven't experienced any ill effects. All rounds have functioned perfectly.

Ok guys, I got my Hornady manual, OAL gage and bullet comparator.
I checked my rifle to see where the bullet will be touching the lands.
Now what is a good starting point to back off the lands?

remington's have been known to have long throats, so be careful when you start hearing people say load to touch the lands. your particular throat/bullet combo may cause the bullet to not seat in the brass far enough to give reliable tension of the bullet in the brass.

now, with that said, if you are mag feeding, chances are you are going to have to load to max mag length and chances are you will be jumping the bullet anyways. if you single feed, you may get away with a longer OAL.

if I were you, I would start at mag length, then do your load workup. when you get a decent looking node or range of charges that are yielding similar results, load to the middle of that range, then play with seat depth (i would start at around 2.800", then go down 0.020" increments until I got to say 2.760"...so 2.780, 2.760 and see which of those gives the best groups).
