    Reloading 9mm With Bullseye

    I'm reloading 9mm, 115gn Berry's Plated RN.

    According to Alliant's site I charged @ 4.6 to 4.7 gn.

What the site doesn't tell me that whether that it is the max load?

How lower can I go without a squib?

I'm using Winchester primers (if concerned)

Lyman manual says for 120gr alloy (lead bullets) 3.8-4.2 @1.1 oal

    Plated are loaded like lead.

Since yours is lighter that would require a tad more powder. I'd start at 4.0 and see how that works.

Sierra manual lists 3.8 - 4.8gr starline brass winchester primer
      Speer lists 4.2 - 4.7 speer/cci brass & primer
Hornady lists 3.9 - 4.6 hornady brass winchester primer

      all for 115gr rn

Sierra also lists their test hangun as a hi-point c9 if it matters hehe, maybe they don't need as much oomph to cycle?

I believe any source that has a 1 recipe, that's max load. And min load is 90% of max by weight.

Thanks, I'll do another test load starting 4.0; What should be a reasonable increment?

Thanks for confirming that it is the max load.
So according to your rule of thumb, minimum would be 4.277 or 4.3 gn?

Thanks all for helping reloading noob.

I've shot many 124 grain cast with 3.5 grains of BE.

              Perfect ejection and very accurate.

With the plated bullets I use 4.5 grains of Bullseye with either 115 or 125 grain bullets.

What I notice the most with these loads is when I resize the cases it takes less force than resizing factory loads.

A sure sign that the pressure is less than factory loads and the load is safe.

I think you can easily drop to four grains without a problem. Bullseye is a very fast powder and works well in reduced loads.

FYI all of alliants recipes are max loads, online and in their paperback that they will send you for free... For that combo I found 4.5 to be the best for me, shoots perfect in anything from 1911-cz75.

This is all good info. I have quite a bit of bullseye on hand. Mostly I load bullseye in 45 and sometimes 38/357 cast. I still have a few pounds of #5 and power pistol but am very interested in finding a load for bullseye and 9mm as well. I've never used BE with 9. Something I'll have to try.

As for a squib, bullseye can be loaded quite light with cast bullets (and I'd imagine plated, which act like lead) and not stick. That's one of its nice features.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Come on; NOBODY reads the instructions! That's some kind of admission of being less than "manly". They'd rather suffer injury or destroy something expensive than read; just isn't done....

Reduce by 10%. Always work up.

I load a 115 grain cast bullet with 4.0 grains of bullseye, my old Lyman cast bullet handbook lists starting at 3.8 & max of 4.9 grains B.E.

I've loaded hundreds of 115-124 grain copper plated Xtreme bullets with 4.1 of Bullseye. They shoot great without too much pop. My OAL is 1.123
