    Wet tumbling brass

I am looking at tumblers. I have a Dillon right now, but am wanting to go wet, to get a better result. I want the capacity to do 1k of .223. I am going to be getting into .308, hopefully soon as well.

Can anyone recommend one? I saw the Thumlers Model A-R6. I know they make good tumblers, but is there a better one? I prefer to spend a little extra to get one that will last.

    Thanks

That looks pretty good. With the exception of the timer, are the other options worth it?

      Any other suggestions out there?

You can be the test case for the Frankford Arsenal one

I'd be tempted to buy the bigdawg before the frankford.

I built one of those with the 6" PVC with agitators and I was not satisfied with the results. It's not the base, it's the drum.

I got a hold of a couple of the new Frankford Arsenal drums and it works much better IMO. I run 8# of media in each drum with roughly 5# of brass and it is perfect after 2.5-3 hours. I used the BIGGDAWG base design and made it a double so I can tumble 2 drums at the same time. This allows me to tumble roughly 10# of decapped 223 brass in about 3 hours.

The Frankford Arsenal might be a better solution, but the durability of the base is in question being gear driven and mostly plastic.

The only setup I am aware of is the BIGGDAWG large 8" setup. After shipping and media, you will be in the $500 range. Add another $170 if you want the double.

I didn't add any of the extra options to mine.

What difference would the larger motor or the fan cooled motor make? Shouldn't the one he has as a base be good enough?

I built my own similar to Big Dawg's, its not to hard if you have the right tools and cost me about $200 in parts. If thats not what your looking to do, contact Big Dawg and he can build your tumbler exactly how you want it!

Do you have any welding skills or abilities? I am working on my own design right now and hope to have it finished in the next week or so. So far its costing less than $100 but I haven't picked up the motor yet. Should be capable of some pretty hefty loads though...using 1" axles

I built my own as well, just waiting on the belt. I used 3/4" axles and a 6" drum. I got my 1/3 hp motor from ebay for $50 shipped.

I bought it. Been thinking about doing a full blown review of it, but in short, I really like it. Works like a charm, doesn't take up a lot of room, and can't beat the price. My only concern is longevity (read somewhere they use plastic gears). Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I saw one of those at Midsouth Shooters for around $170 or so and I was like, DAMN, THAT is better than the RCBS that starts at like $500 AND they are boasting about it being GEAR driven instead of rubber bands...

                            How bad can it be?

I would have bought one, but I have a thumler...

OP, Then just go look for the THUMLER on Fleabay, You can get a used one for a decent price and they totally rock... (pun intended!)

I was looking at the Thumler model B. It says it has a 15# capacity. How many pounds of pins would I need for 10#'s of brass? Or would I have to use less brass and more pins?
