    Powder Experience Questions

    Hi Everyone,

I recently picked up some Accurate No. 5 and CFE pistol at a local gun show. I've never used either of these powders before and would like to know what your personal experiences are.

I will be loading .45 in both 185gr and 230gr varieties, and also 9mm in 115gr.

I have load data...more wondering about other issues ie...how they meter or any positive/negative experiences with either of these.

Lastly, thanks to all on this sight. A recent PCS has brought me here and this sight has been a wealth of information thus far.

    They both meter like water.

I'm playing with CFE Pistol and 147gr 9mm. It sucks so far. Horrible accuracy. Seems too fast for that combo. Maybe you'll have better luck with 115s.

That's weird, it's supposed to be slower than many other pistol powders.

I'm planning on working up some loads. It sounds like the CFE at least is pretty new so I'll post a range report when I get that far. Thanks

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

#5 is supposed to be great for 45 & am assuming 9mm as well.

the accurate powders meter great, dare I say even better than 231.

That is a tall order. Actually that is what I have used exclusively but it's all gone now so I have to try new things.

#5 is good for all kinds of pistols and stuff. You should have no issues. CFE I dunno about but I am sure there will be plenty of data out on it now. Glad you got it instead of me. I have enough things to experiment with. BUT I did learn something.

If I go outside and shoot off three rounds in succession, not only do the neighbors call the cops, but the ghetto bird circles the area as well.

SO I guess I have to go back to making ammo and WAITING for the time to go to an outdoor range and shoot it all off with my chrono...

Geeze. But good for you for being able to be versatile. If you do not find the load you like, use that powder on a load that is decent and then do not buy it again. I have too many bottles of stuff that only have a few rounds taken from them... What a waste on 44 mag too...

Well thanks for the info all. I think I'll start with the no5 since more have experience with that. I don't have a chrono but since the CFE sounds pretty new I'll post my experiences with it and what I loaded up.

I just got in to reloading and the setup I bought from guy came with #8 no5 and I've used it in 9,40,45 and have had great results with all 3.
