tumbling problem

i have been loading some 10mm with bluedot. they seem pretty accurate at distance. mainly at asr pistol range. but when i shoot the same loads at close range i notice that some are tumbling. is this a trait of xtreme plated bullets and if this would go away with fmj bullets (montana golds or precision delta) my loads are a bit hot but the brass has no real overpressure signs.

What are your loads looking like? Crimp? I've had a similar experience with xtreme's 180 RNFP over 8.7 800x. When I upped the charge to 9.2 (slowly working up to it of course) with a medium-light crimp, the bullets stabilized and I found no signs of keyholing after.

the crimp is good not to tight and the load is 11 grains based on the aliant manual. a bit hotter than what the lyman book suggests. but the load info was for fmj's though. yea i have to go back from light then. i have jugs of blue dot bought during the panic. but ill see about the 800x does it meter well on a progressive. and also im shooti g from a stock g29. so far it shoots nice but just tumbling. fhanks for the input dudes

Why do you think that they are tumbling? Does the load group well? Do you have full side profile holes in the target?

Are you shooting at unsupported paper targets?

If they are tumbling they would not be accurate at a distance.

I had tumbling problems using 180gr Xtreme plated and AA#2. They shot fine at starting loads, but as I worked up to mid range, they started tumbling.

I think this depends on the weapon, since I've heard of people pushing the same 10mm bullet to 1200 fps and it worked fine in their weapon.

I have since switched over to the Zero Brand 180gr JHP. Using 12.5gr of AA#9, Win LP Primer, mixed cases, seated to 1.26", my chronograph is showing an average of 1184 fps out of a Delta Elite.

The above load is safe in my gun, but I can't vouch for yours or any other. I suggest you start low and work up.

yea i make sure the brass is giid with no over pressure signs. i have sone 180's and 165 grain projo's. i will switch over to fmjs soon. havent been able to chrono them. and as far as the targets are pretty steady from the range ill post some up soon.

Are you saying that they are not tumbling at distance, but they are at short range? That does not make sense. Are they too heavy or too long for your twist?

The 800x will definitely not meter well; i've had variations of ~0.4 grains when throwing charges. Handweighing each and every one is the only solution.

thanks dudes. i did read the bottom of the. seems they are too hot for plated. at angeles range i can hit the metal swingers. i notice the tumbling when i shot my loads at the indoor range. at first i thought i was same hole but found out it was tumbling. looks like i have to unload some of these plated bullets soon. thanks again
