Brass Marking Ideas? For range pickup

I know most will just use a sharpie and hit the primer and headstamp.

I tried painting the primers with spray paint. It worked and they loaded fine. Shot a few and the paint flaked off the primers so that didnt help.

I've seen seen the mr shooter device that marks them horizontally but it's $70.

Any one have some clever ideas? I thought about a tube like pvc and have some paint pens sticking in at an angle. Drops completed rounds and they get marked length wise as they slide down and pass under a pen. Checked Home Depot and couldnt figure out how to do it for a 9mm round thats about 3/8".

I use a green sharpie since the colors have been taken by the guys in my club. This way it makes it easy to recover my 38 super brass.

Stamp pad with postal ink , just stamp the head. Postal grade ink doesn't wipe off.

Just be sure you use the right ink. I tried this once with regular ink and after a week, it was just as wet as the day I applied it.

why not just use a brass catcher - or just recycle you brass every time, it started out as range brass anyway.

I use the sharpie method and draw a line across the bottom of the cartridge. I usually use a color like purple because it is an odd color that most don't use. I'm always able to identify my brass and let others around me know what to look for. So far I have only lost a couple of cases.

I was wondering why all this good .38 sup +p brass I have been sweeping up is green. I figured it was a mark the manufacture started doing. Jonzer, is this actually a matter of panache at the range? "Whoa, those are a some nice .38 super rounds you loaded?"

If you don't care about purdy looking ammo. What has inadvertently worked for me is to just write your load data on the side of the case with a Sharpie if it's brass expensive enough to care about and spend time for proper reloading. I just write it down while the Chargemaster is throwing the next powder charge. It saves the fuss of carrying around a big ammo container for each different load.

I wonder if powdercoating the whole outside of the case would work? It would make it easy to see, obvious to identify your own, and only adds about .0005 thickness to each wall, so within spec. It is slippery like brass so it should still feed well. It is durable so it should last many firings. only so down side is it might be "too slippery" for the chamber, increasing pressure on the bolt? But not in a handgun, soooo....

I had considered anodizing my cases, but figured that'd cost too much. Not sure if any of the coatings would be detrimental to case life anyway. Some chemicals make brass brittle and subject to splitting.

Jumbo sharpie ducktaped to a piece of wood. Clean horizontal band about 3/4 up from the case rim.

The NRA had A article on changing the color of your brass. You had to be a chemist to understand the ingredients .
