Lead bullets question

are lead bullets for reloading legal to shoot at shooting ranges?
wanted to reload some 7.62x39 and thought of lead bullets, but are they ok at outdoor shooting ranges?
if not, where can i find some copper or other type of 7.62x39 reloading bullets?

Some indoor ranges don't let you shoot bullets with exposed lead but I have never heard of an outdoor with those rules.

Xtreme makes a plated 123 grain .310 bullet that works pretty well, just don't push them much faster than 1500 fps.

assuming that it is for an AK or SKS, I would recommend loading plated/jacketed vs lead simply because of leading... as mentioned you are going to be limited on how fast you can push lead, less so with plated.

If the bullets are sized right(.001 over groove diameter), properly lubed and gas checked, or alternatively powder coated, you will be able to shoot them just fine in your rifle with no leading.
I've never heard of plated bullets for a rifle before.
Plated bullets are severely limited in the velocity department. Obviously jacketed bullets can be pushed to light speed without problems.

I don't see the point much in reloading 7.62x39 with relatively expensive jacketed bullets. You might be loading for 17-19 cents each. You can buy them for .25 cents each loaded.

Cast bullets at least gives you a chance at reducing the cost.

But on the other hand, Powder Coated bullets are fine and dandy to make too and I double dog dare OP to push them as fast as they can.

I think even a 9mm being used in a 9x25 Dillon will hold up.
