    RELOADING STARTER KIT

As the title states... I'm looking at reloading my own ammo and wondering what is a good quality starter kit. I will be loading 223 and 9M. Would prefer the kit have a digital scale and die's for 223 and 9M.

Any help or recommendations would be great.

    Thanks

I would recommend getting a book and reading it first.

As for a press, the Lee Classic Turret offers a bit of flexibility. I'd also start off loading the 9mm first as it's much easier to reload pistol vs. rifle, at least starting off.

My suggestions are to attend a local reloading club and what the above poster suggested. Watch some youtube videos of reloading.
Now, onto what your title is all about. I would start off with a single stage or turret for reloading. I have the rcbs deluxe kit that basically comes with everything you need to get started. Although, I would get a nice reloading manual to start. The dies you can start off with the lee 4 pistol die set and rifle deluxe kit. You can always upgrade your equipment as you go.

I would suggest to start looking for powder now and then wait for the next Black Friday sales to pick up a starter kit... cause you probably won't have powder before then anyway, lol.

Use the time between now and then to read and research

Lee Classic Turret. I load 9MM, 38SPL, 357MAG, 45ACP, 45COLT, 7X57, 30-30, 30.06 AND 223/5.56. It is a great system. You can add an electronic scale (which I recommend) for about $30. Buy some dies and get started. Here are some photos of my loading bench:

The Lee classic turret kit for around 300 dollars is a good way to get started. The scale is a wee bit hard to read, (I recommemd the RCBS 505 scale) but it gets the job done.

                  619? San Diego?

We have a reloading clinic on the 18th of May if you're interested. You can try a few presses before you buy

As others have said, read and stock components before grabbing whatever press you want.

I'm using a Lee Breech Lock Single stage kit:

Beyond what was in the kit, I got a bullet puller and recently a universal deprimer so the primer pockets are cleaned when I clean the rest of the brass.

I'm using it for 45acp and once I get my powder, 6.8spc. I've got dies for 9mm just no bullets yet.

When I load, I do it is large batch stages while watching TV:
                    • Deprime for 100
                    • Clean for 100
                    • Hand prime for 100
                    • Size for 100
                    • Powder then press bullet for 100.

So far, I haven't felt a reason for a progressive or turret. I've been happy with the performance and speed.

Get a couple of reloading manuals. Interesting differences. Not wrong, just different emphasis'
Lyman and Hornady will get you started. As questions come up search on google and you tube.
Pistol is easier to start with. I'd start there and after your comfy, go to rifle.
                      Good luck

This is pretty cheap if you ask me.

                            All excellent suggestions here

The very best advise is just get started!

You will never go back ... I can almost guarantee this.

i started with an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme kit. In my opinion; RCBS is like the meat and potatoes of the reloading industry.

The best thing you can do is BUY A KIT! Then go from there.

Every name brand kit will have a reloading manual included with it.

Then... as it sits there ... you will get filled with the urge and wonder ... then you will make a bench ... then you will start reloading ... then you will send lots ... and I mean LOTS of rounds down range.

Then ... you will realize ... That it has only just begun!

Have fun ... Be safe! By the way ... Have fun!

Take the reloading class like Bumslie suggested. Trying out several different presses is the bast way to make an informed decision. In the meantime, buy a Lyman's 49th manual. You can get an idea for powders and components to look for. It's always best to have two or three manuals to compare and contrast info in addition to the powder manufacturers website.

I went with the Lee classic cast turret kit and have been very happy with it. I can load pistol or large rifle on it with ease. Buy an extra turret for each caliber and you switch from reloading pistol to rifle in seconds.
