    How does shipping ammo work?
Ive heard only ups/fedex will ship ammo...
but also seen others mention they've received ammo via usps.

do i just walk in and tell them "i want to ship this ammo" to XXXXXXXX?...
    any help is appreciated...

This is probably the wrong place for this question but I'll help out.
Call fedex and ups and ask or go to their web site and search shipping hazardous material. You will learn that you are supposed to take it to one of their shipping locations that will deal with hazmat items. It will cost a little more to ship.

That's wrong. It's not hazmat and it doesn't cost more. You couldn't ship hazmat anyway, you aren't set up for it. Shipping ammo is regulated but hazmat's a whole different category.

It's no big deal. You're not supposed to ship it USPS since there's no way to specify ground-only. You're not supposed to go to a UPS store or FedEx/Kinkos location because they're not set up for it. You go to the main UPS or Fedex distribution center for your area and you ship it there. It has to have some stickers on it - they changed the way it works, it used to be ORM-D and now it's a "ground limited quantity" sticker which is a diamond thing. If you Google it you can find it or you can ask them and they'll either give you stickers or tell you what to draw on the side with a sharpie.

It doesn't cost any extra, it's just by weight. It does have to go ground, not air, and that symbol keeps them from upgrading it or putting too much on one truck. You also can't put more than 66 pounds in any one box.

If they give you any guff UPS has a hotline to explain shipping stuff like this 1-800-554-9964 and they should be able to look that up. I had it happen once with a clerk who said they didn't ship anything like that there and the hotline cleared it right up.

When did this happen? I just got ammo via UPS last week and there was nothing but an ORM-D on the box.

I just shipped some ammo last week. I called FedEx to verify and the first customer service rep told me that I had to ship to an FFL! After I told him that he was wrong, he connected me to their Dangerous Goods hotline. There, the rep was able to lay it out for me:

          1. Must ship ground
          2. Must have ORM-D sticker (get a sample from this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=54456)
          3. She stated that it should also have a label stating that the package contained "Cartridges, Small Arms". When I receive ammo from online retailers, it rarely has a sticker like this so I think it must not be a hard requirement but I did it just to be safe.

Shipping did not cost any extra. I shipped it online using my FedEx account (anyone can get one) and requested a pick up from my house. Driver arrived the next day, scanned the box, and drove off. Package delivered with no issues 2 days later.

          Easy Peasy, don't be nervous!

re: the stickers - everybody was supposed to switch over Jan 1st, 2014. I've been getting a mix - Cabelas uses the new stickers, other people seem to be using ORM-D stickers. I'm not sure when the "hard" switchover happens and we seem to be in something of a grace period. If you call the UPS line they definitely specify the new labels, at least the person we got when my UPS hub called.

I like the diamonds because it doesn't say what it is.
