    Stuck Case

So apparently I need to re-evaluate my method of lubing my cases.

I was FL resizing last night and somehow got this case stuck in my die. Now this wouldn't normally be that much of an issue, but I cannot get the decapping pin out of the case. Because of that, I cannot tap the case to extract it. I have also tried freezing it and screwing the die in upside down and using some vice grips on it. Nothing so far has worked.

I'm planning on calling Dillon tomorrow to see if they might have any insight, but I figured I'd save the phone call if any reloading gurus can help me out. I'll give 5 internets to whoever can help me fix this!

    Thanks in advance

    Overniter with Kroil?

Why won't the pin come out?

Don't you just screw the decapping pin down so that it pushes the stuck case out? I seem to remember reading that in my dillon die instructions when i first got them. I am not at home right now, or I would look to be sure. If you still have your instructions it says how to do it.

I tried that and tightened it as much as I could. Started to push the flash hole through the primer pocket until i couldn't get it any more.

I don't know if you can do this but I had a similar situation once. I have Lee's dies so I don't know if it will work for you.

I removed the retaining nut from the decapper pin so the pin can move freely and the only thing holding it in place is the stuck case.

Hammered out the case by hitting the top of the so the pin pushes the case out. I did this on top of a 2x4 with a hole drilled to fit just the case.

Then I had to cut the case in half so I could separate it from the pin.

In my situation I had to clean the top of the decapping pin since it muchroomed a bit but a quick pass with a Dremel grinding wheel and it was back to normal. Don't know if you want to go this route but I had no troubles with the die or pin since then. I did contact Lee and they sent me 2 extra pins free of charge.

Your decapping pin is adjusted down to far. This didn't cause the stuck case but it's why the decapping pin is stuck in the case. The bottom of the expander is jammed into the flashhole of the case. When (if) you get the case out, adjust the decapping pin (up) until it just barely pushes the spent primer out of the case.

Try placing brass in a small box and using a spray lube ...shake and spray at the same time.
              Keep it simple!

I gave up on the aerosol "Hornady 1-stuck" and now use "Imperial Die Wax" - problem solved.

When it happened to me I was also using Hornady case lube. I had to spray in a bag and on a block then let it sit for 5 minutes to let it dry and then it worked better. I use Dillon case lube now and that thing is awesome.

Maybe you can leech in some wax. Heat gun or blow drier on the die enough to melt candle wax between the case and die till it runs out of the top?

You need to loosen the decapper and run it up in the case as far as it will go. Then you can drill and tap the case for a stuck case remover. Good luck.

There's not enough room to get a tap in there because the primer pocket is pushed out due to me trying to use the decapper as a stuck case remover.

If it were me with this problem, I would try using the press to push the decapping pin out of the die.

Get a small piece of aluminum and drill a hole in it just large enough in diameter for the pin to fit. Don't drill all the way through, just about an 1/16" deep to provide a pocket for the end of the pin.

Put the die in the press, put the aluminum block on top of the shell holder. Lower the ram and get the pin into the drilled hole in the aluminum block. Then carefully and slowly apply increasing pressure to the ram handle and see if the pin can be pressed out through the top of the die.
                          Tire kickers gonna kick,
                          Nose pickers gonna pick
I and others know the real

You can try freezing the die.. The brass will shrink a little more then the steel will. It should help some.. The colder the better. Give it a good 4-5 hours in the deep freeze and give the case a tug with some pliers.

Try screwing the die into the press upside down, spray lubricant, pry on extractor groove with flat screwdriver.
