Stuck Case

Something wicked this way comes... I have noticed more and more folks getting things STUCK in shells lately. So apparently I need to re-evaluate my method of lubing my cases.

I was FL resizing last night and somehow got this case stuck in my die. Now this wouldn't normally be that much of an issue, but I cannot get the decapping pin out of the case. Because of that, I cannot tap the case to extract it. I have also tried freezing it and screwing the die in upside down and using some vice grips on it. Nothing so far has worked.
I'm planning on calling Dillon tomorrow to see if they might have any insight, but I figured I'd save the phone call if any reloading gurus can help me out. I'll give 5 internets to whoever can help me fix this!
Thanks in advance
Look at the bright side, at least you did not pull the press handle and your press magically turned into a VICE...
That happened to another member...
My advice to YOU is to use SCIENCE and see if that can help.
Put the die in the freezer overnight, then have a torch ready (or butane lighter or whatever, SOMETHING to blow hotness all over and then you want to heat the OUTTER EDGE while keeping the heat away from the center. THAT might expand the outer portion a bit to loosen something up enough to pull out the pin...
Good luck.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

this is a last ditch method I have used before:
first, move the decapping rod up to prevent Damage (if you can)
place the die into the press and lock it down.
grab onto the case with a pair of pliers (preferable some Vise grips) and try to twist the case to break loose the case from the die.
Just do not try too hard or you could damage the die.Daniel Hagerty

There are two kinds of handloaders in the world: those who have had a stuck case and those who will have a stuck case.
Call Dillon. They'll probably have you send it in so they can fix it for free. They are good like that. They'll also probably tell you how to set it up so your de-capper doesn't get in this situation again.
And I echo others recommendations on either the Dillon spray (which is lanolin and isopropyl alcohol, so it is good for your fingers) or Imperial Sizing Wax will go a long way towards preventing another stuck case.Comment

Update for anyone who is curious how it turned out.
Mailed the die back to Dillon and ordered some Imperial sizing wax. I'll also get some Dillon spray as soon as I get my new credit card.
Thank you all for the help!Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! We could have got drunk, called a taxi and drop by Kest house with a mega phone.Comment

Everyone gets a stuck case eventually. Just get a stuck case remover and you can get it out pretty easily.
You didn't mention what kind of case lube you have, but I can bet it is Hornady One Shot. Save that for pistol only and move to a DYI. So much cheaper and easier.Comment

RCBS spray lube that came with my press. Hopefully next time (in sure it will happen again) I can get a tap in there. Definitely ordering a stuck case remover on my next midway order.
Also, does anyone know what Dillon's turnaround time is?Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! We could have got drunk, called a taxi and drop by Kest house with a mega phone.Comment

Had the same problem a few months ago and completely destroyed the die. Called Dillon and they sent me a new one and I had to send the destroyed one back to them. I'm sure they had me send it back to be displayed in the reloaders hall of shame. Tried all of the things you tried, problem was the pin got bent and then would not allow the pin to push the case out as designed. I changed lube to the Dillon lube and haven't had a problem since.
