    Ears are ringing....

Yup it finally happened. Primer went off on station 1 (550B)
I know it's 00:30 but these are my awake hours.
Yes I was wearing safety glasses.
    No I wasn't wearing hearing protection =(

Wife jumped awake but my daughter is still sound asleep in the room next door.

I'm guessing either the primer fed from the tube crooked or maybe the unprimed case tipped up the primer on insertion. Although I imagined the primer would be flattened sideways...

    Anyone else with this experience?

Glad you are ok. More of a shakeup than anything I assume.

I have seen primers bent like that in mine and it was because the brass wasn't all the way in the shellplate. It happened to me on a 650 and with 223, but still same in principle. Luckily for me the primer did not detonate. Did you hear the crunch before it went off?

I didn't hear or feel a crunch on the push.

Currently breaking for a bit before I clean the press and get refocused. (+ear pro).
The Wife was worried about the neighbors reporting a gunshot. Especially at this hour, just what I need. I've never heard just a primer go off from more than say.. 6" from my face before. So, im not sure how loud it was from outside.

I just popped a fresh case into station 1 and there is some slop between the brass and the paperclip. Although after the case is resized, it should remain aligned. right?

        Funny guy =) lol,

I looked at the first picture and it looked like the shellplate might be out of alignment but I think it's just the camera on my phone.
I cleaned up the press and ran a few rounds. (with my -30db earpro)
Maybe I'm missing something but I don't find anything odd.

Crimped case maybe? I've seen that primer look with 9mm and 45 military crimped rounds

these cases were WWB with several reloads. Nothing unusual with the primer pocket.

I did read a while back about Dillon having primer issues feeding from the tube. Ever since I keep a .45acp case capped on top of the plastic primer pushrod. I can't see that the rod would require any more weight. or not?

I'm down to a mild ring in both ears. An hour ago I could still hear whistling when I breathe.

EP7's ?? I was thinking about getting those custom molded jobs but I got a bunch of those EP5's for a really good price.

Glad to hear you are ok. Thankfully you didn't have any sympathetic detonations from the other primers.

Whew, glad you're ok. I've worried about this happening, I've had a few go in with more of a crunch than I like, but never could find any reason why and assumed it was polishing grit. I've also had a few small primer .45 cases almost try to get primed with large primers. Not fun.

What brand primers do you use? My 550 seems to have issues with CCI hanging up in the tubes when I fill them, but winchesters must be smoother or a hair smaller and seem to feed better.

You got very lucky it was only one. Trust me one is enough, but when the tube goes off things get streaky down stairs.

May I ask what primers you were using?

I crunched 2 primers early on that apparently dropped in sideways but they just got smashed up.
