    Identify this press?

    I have this press I inherited from my friend Charlie. It has sentimental value so I'm going to clean it up and buy some new dies. My question is, I don't see a model number anywhere. I want to download instructions but I have no clue what model this Lee press is. Does anybody recognize it? My first batch will probably be .38 special wadcutters, I've got almost 500 I want to use. Thanks, Bob

      More info:http://leeprecision.com/reloading-pr...loading-press/

      Check out load master videos on set up. It's a finicky press. http://loadmastervideos.com/

      I have mine set up as a dedicated 38sp/357 mag unit. Runs near 100% using the suggestions from load master videos and ultimate reloader.

        Thanks for the quick response lugee. I noticed this in the instructions;

        Only CCI or Remington brand primers are safe to use with this tool unless you have the optional explosion deflector. Other brands, especially Federal primers, explode with such force that serious injury can occur with their use.

        I think I've got some Wolf primers I had hoped I could use. Oh well, one thing at a time. I'll clean it up, bolt it down and lubricate it. I've got a box of mixed up dies but I don't know how they will clean up. I was hoping to load .38 wadcutters and .45 acp.

          Bob, the warning about primers is really just aimed at federal due to them being more sensitive than other brands. Your wolf primers will be just fine.

          Give me a holler if you need any help.

            Bigbob76, tujungatoes is correct. Hard primers don't really have problems. I run s&b, CCI, wpp, and wolf on mine. I do have the primer blast shield on mine. Just Dont force primers in and you should be OK.

              Thanks Toes, I may take you up on that. It may be interesting to dig around in this box of dies that got all scrambled up out of their containers.

              Thanks lugee, if I don't have the shield for mine and it's not available I'll wear my face shield.

                Rather than start a new thread I'll stick with this one. Thanks to Lugee I know now I have a Lee Loadmaster. I will hopefully get help from tujungatoes to get started loading. My question is regarding what powder and bullets are available? I just got another 1911, one that I have been wanting for a very long time. Up till now I have been shooting my other 1911s with the reloads available at my range or the cheapest factory ammo I could buy. I would like to shoot lighter loaded semi wadcutters in my new Ed Brown Executive Target .45acp. Once I get set up with the ammo I'll be shooting I will get the appropriate weight recoil spring. My intended usage is paper at short range indoors. I see there are semi wadcutters in 185 and 200 grains. I will perhaps also load full wadcutter .38 special. Would the same powder for both be practical? I have once fired brass and a tumbler to clean it. Thanks for any ideas.

                  There's a lot of powders that work very well for light 38 and 45 wadcutter loads. I've used Unique, Bullseye, WST, W231, and currently using HP-38.

                    231 or hp38 are great powders for both of those, as well as the others mentioned. once you get that press dialed in you'll be crankin' out the good stuff.

                      Thanks for the info. Which is is more consistently available in bulk?

                          Yeah, last night I thought I'll just buy a couple of 8 lb. jugs and be good to go for a while. Silly me, I'm late to the party. Sold out, sold out, sold out! Maybe I'll be able to find somebody with a stash that will trade for .22lr that I have.
