    Reloading coated casings

Hi all, I have these .357 Mag rounds and they seem to have sort of coating on them. I scratched one a bit to see what's underneath. See picture.

Do you think these can be refilled without dirtying or ruining my dies? What is this shell material and coating anyways?

      CCI Blazer.

      Aluminum
should have "NR" head stamp = not reloadable
Also Brendan primed. You'll break your decapping pin the first time you try to size one...

People have reloaded non-brass cases, and there are ways, but most people don't bother for various reasons. With brass to be had for free at many ranges, it just isn't worth it for most people, nor the trouble it can cause...

could also be blazer; either way OP you can't (or should i suggest don't) reload aluminum. the case isn't strong enough / designed to be reloaded.

As previously noted that appears to be an aluminum case. Reloading of those is not recommended.

Might I suggest that you get some hands on reloading experience with someone who knows the ropes?

Is that a HP/SP bullet? Kinda strange. All the aluminum ammo I've seen was low priced RN range fodder.

Maybe it's steel? Does it stick to a magnet?

Either way, while they CAN be reloaded, aluminum and steel aren't really what you want. .357 brass can be had fairly easily. When I was starting out I bought used brass and scavenged when I found it. You can order new Starline from their website. It's top quality & not really all that expensive.

Thank you all for your very valuable input. Yes, there is an N R stamped on. I think aluminum is right. Very light cases, don't stick to magnet. And I did notice that they were a lot tamer than the brass rounds.
I put them in their new home - the recycling bin.

damn I am too late for this party... Oh well:
There are exceptions to every rule, and you can reload everything, but is THIS practical? NO. Do not try, it is just a waste of time for little pay out IF you even make it that far. But if you do, you are just THAT much closer to having your own reality show...
