Nu Finish is a polymer which won't hurt/weaken your brass.
Dryer sheets (fabric softener) will atrack the waste/dirt from the media so it extends it's life.
If you know your "polish" is ammonia free then you're good to go!
Walnut first then corn. Walnut gets the tough stuff....corn being softer buffs it shiny.

I just run my brass in walnut for 8 hours (god damnit, typing this out I remembered I forgot to plug in my tumbler before I left for work this morning), and reuse it until it turns my hand black rooting around for errant pieces.

Midway had a bunch of tumblers catch fire; that's the one I have. I stick it out in the garage, middle of the floor, on a timer. So even if I forget about it, the timer won't. A little motor like that is not designed to run for 8+ hours. Most of them just use brass bushings to support the rotor, not ball bearings.

Nu Finish is great if you're making jewelry out of your brass...

Try tumbling with your media for 2-3 hours and see how the brass turns out. It should be clean enough not to damage your dies... and that's the point.
          Be safe, have fun.

This! Walnut will help bludgeon off pieces of crap and the corn cob with your polishing agent will buff the brass to a shiny awesomeness

Run the tumbler with media only when adding NuFinish, then after it has run a while, add your brass, otherwise you will get clumping on the brass. Change media after four or five batches (depending on how dirty your brass is) and it will clean better.
