45-70 loads i dont understand

All 45/70 case manufactures sizes are different as far as amount of powder they hold. What brass are you trying to use? Winchester? If you want excellent advise go over to marlin owners dot com they have a entire section delicates to 45/70 and what not to do when loading.
I use 42gr imr4198 no gas check rem 300gr ISP in starline brass

Iam useing winchester brass . My loads r doing ok iam setting coal to 2.550

Iv been loading 58 gr of h335 & a magnum primer behind a Remington 300 gr jhp if ur wondering

Why the magnum primers? 335 is not a slow powder IMO

Because with the h335 i was getting giant muzzle flash & its a ball powder it cut the muzzle flash in half . Gets a more complete burn

Try IMR 4198 , I'am currently using it in.45/90.

For the 1895 Marlin, Hornady lists a 300 gr and 350 gr
IMR 4198 48.7 MAX@2100fps
H4198 51.2 MAX@2000fps
RL-7 52.3 MAX@2000fps
IMR 3031 56.9@1900fps

I would try 4198 but nobody has it & the people that do have it r either far away or way over priced so iv just been workn with what i got.

Hopefully in the future powders will become more of the available. we can all hope. I have only been loading since New Years . So well i got a,late start on the new hobby.
Got lots of ammo . Wasnt stressed out over the panic. Just started with reloading the 45-70 cause well its a 45-70
