Recommend a good priming tool for me

What do you guys use/recommend for priming? I'm looking for a good hand priming tool.

Up to now, I've been using the arm on my lee press. Which is fine, it is just slow, and honestly I mentally cringe slightly every time I lower the ram to "jam" a new primer in the brass.

    RCBS? LEE autoprime?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm honestly leaning towards that one. My dad uses it and likes it.

I'm not aware of any cons with it. I always like to get opinions though

I have both the RCBS tools and though they are not perfect they both work just fine - I haven't used the Lee, but I know people who do & they say that it works just fine.

if I had to buy them over again, I would probably just pick the cheaper of the two.

I have a couple of Lee hand prime tools, they are probably 30 years old. Still work fine. I keep one set up for large primers and one for small.

My RCBS hand primer has been good to me.

Doesn't accept my lee 223 collet tho.. Not sure if it's the collet or hand primer tho. Works fine with my 308 one tho.

For years I have loved the original Lee hand priming tool. Simple and it works. However at the SHOT show, I picked up the new Lyman hand priming tool for the reloading club classes. To be honest I like the way it is made. It used standard shell holders and is the easiest I have seen so far to reconfigure. I have not put it to the test yet I will soon, though the real test will be at the Ventura class on the second of next month when it gets tested by a novice loader. For some reason many beginners have trouble with the Lee model. Form how it looks and feels I think it will be my favorite and just may rest on my bench between classes. There is no lift and slot system like the new style Lee and each tray comes with its own cover. Check it out. Also I would like to make a thanks and shout out to Lyman. They are sending us a couple free Lyman #49 manuals to use in the classes.

I would like to amend my earlier post, if I had to do it over again - I would buy the Lyman.

also I mentioned that I have both the RCBS tools - the universal and the on that uses shell holders. something to keep in mind; the universal uses a spring system for the shell holder, which I have found works fine on larger cases but not as much with smaller ones. I have actually launched .223 cases across the room from them slipping out of the springs.

For decades I used the Lee Hand Priming Tool. It worked great. It was cheaply made, but it worked. I then purchased a 21st Century Priming Tool, that is made of quality parts and sold my Lee tool on this site. My only derogatory comment about the Lee tool is the parts were not quality, but it worked for decades and they are still making the same tool and selling it for $25.00. I like the Century because it is made of quality machined parts, but it sells for $110.00.

I have worn out/broken several of the old lee tools. They were cheap so I did not mind.
I now have 2 of the new model and do not like them as much.
When they go I will get Lyman/RCBS ones.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Also keep in mind that the Lee uses special shell holders. But the flip side to that is the whole set is only $20

been using the lee auto-prime that came with my press kit for 110 bucks, lol. also came with the shellholders that fit almost everything. couple things I have to prime on the press but no biggie. I've heard that some folks break the lever on the autoprime, I'm trying but I haven't done it yet. once I do, i'll surely buy the lyman, hands down. it uses the same shellholders you use in a press, which is a no-brainer. was gonna buy the universal RCBS but having learned of it's shortcomings and seeing the lyman made my mind up. more and more I find lyman products to be well-priced and well-designed. still like my lee press and prefer their dies to any others, for ease of use and price. anyhow, looking at a hand-priming tool if I were going to buy a new one, it would definitely be a lyman.

I have two of the RCBS hand primer tools - one for large, one for small... Have worked great on more than 20K rounds.
