8208 is crap, you will never get accuracy with 8208. You should ignore this powder and wait for hippofart... I mean varget. Leave the 8208 alone.

I liked Tac....until it hit 100 f at a match and I got delayed on two shots that subsequently went high.

Varget is rare, but it's not temperature sensitive. But unless you shoot matches there are a whole bunch of powders other than Varget you can use.

I'll option that temperature stability is greatly overrated. This thread is worth a read. Elevation control is key at 600 yards but I think we all make a bigger deal out of powder than we need to, especially in the case of the .223. Short deal is find a powder that is basically in the right burn rate, work up a load, see if it shoots. Be careful and don't hurt yourself or others. Keep old reloading data books around for reference, a lot of old loads have been lost to the archives of the lawyers.

When did PV have the Varget??

Milo, on a hot day with a hit chamber pierced primers are a reality pushing heavy bullets at higher speeds. Granted at 600 yards with a 223 you won't go over the edge, but you can get some faster ****s which can cost you a lot of points.

They don't limit the amount one person can buy, so one guy buys 400 pounds and scalps it on Calguns. I do not generally like quotas but it can stop hoarding. I did get 10 pounds from recob last week. That will last two seasons of 28 matches. Hopefully in two years things will level off.

I know it's a real thing, I just think that a lot of people used 4895 and base their experience of "cooking rounds" off that. And prior to 4895 being redeveloped into an Extreme powder by Hodgdon it was the most temperature sensitive powder if that ar15 thread is to be believed.

I did a bit of round cooking with some ball powder on saturday and didn't see any elevation problems at 300. However I also don't ride the bleeding edge of any load. I like being well within SAAMI spec as far as pressure is concerned.
