    Just took the plunge into 300 Blackout

    I have been contemplating this for awhile. I have a AR project that only needs a barrel, and it appears I finally settled on it's cartridge.

    I bought the following...

    1.) Lee 300 Blackout 3 Die Set.

    2.) Brass cutting jig... seemed to cool to pass up. I'll be the guinnea pig

    I will be getting the 2" Harbor Freight chop saw... and I have some left over brass that I will practice on.
    I currently have about 4 pounds BL(C)-2 on hand, and 2 pounds of IMR 3031.
    Also a few hundred Nosler 168g match HPBT and ballistic tips that I was saving for my AR10, but might as well use them.

    Here we go!

    Have fun with it. On powders, you're going to need a lot faster burns. The slowest is AA1680/WC680and the fastest is AA9/H110/W296

        300BLK is going to be the most popular AR cartridge after the .223 stuff. If isn't already there. It's a real no brainer to cut down the .223 and load up a 30 caliber bullet. AA1680 is really hard to find; 18 months ago it was OOS almost everywhere. Yet before 300BLK, AA couldn't give it away. It was only used to reload 7.62x39, and with all the surplus around, nobody reloaded it.

        It's driving the 6.8 guys crazy...

              Congrats into the 300 Blackout world.

              Please read post #2 from the link provided. regarding the squirreldaddy jig.

                Anyone have a link to the original jig that was copied? I am cancelling my amazon order for the squirrel daddy jig.

                    Yes, he's the originator and has sold a ton of them, including one that I bought. You might have a hard time finding the chop saw but keep looking one will turn up. So many people buying the cutoff jigs were also buying the chop saws that Harbor Freight was caught with a low supply. Several members on the forum had their order money refunded and some were told it has been discontinued, which is not the case yet.

                      Keep checking out Jeff Bartlett's site www.gibrass.com He sometimes gets WC680 8lb jugs in stock. It is the commercial grade AA1680. It's what you will need for subsonic ammo that cycles the action, unless you can get AA1680. As long as you are using 150gr and below bullets in supersonic loads, you can get by with your AA9. H110/W296 will fit the bill better, but you can get AA9 to work with those lighter bullets. If you have a Wilson headspace gage for adjusting your sizing die, ensure that you also chamber test the sized brass in the rifle you are going to fire it in. If Blackout brass is sized to the maximum SAAMI length per my Wilson gage, it will not chamber in my DPMS. I have to size it to minimum SAAMI length in my Wilson gage before it will fit. Don't make the same mistake as me and end up having to size AGAIN to bump 500 cases down all the way to minimum SAAMI Blackout specs. I was sooo passed that I didn't check the first case in my rifle chamber while adjusting my dies. Usually the Wilson gage is pretty darn good in all the other calibers I load.

                          Take a look at this one;

                          or this one;

                          Booming market in 300BLK jigs. I bet HF is scratching their head over why they are selling all those chop saws. I bought mine 18 months ago....

                            I agree the H110/W296 are a better choice for supers. You can also look at Lil Gun for some subs if you can find it.

                              Read on the 300 board that the HF chop saw has been discontinued and replaced with a 6" version.
                              Better check the stores quick!
