Powder Measures

I'm looking for a dump measure to load up quick test batches. I was looking at the RCBS Uniflow, RCBS Competition, & Redding 3br. (I already have a charge master but was looking something a little quicker)

Which would you recommend and why?

I use the RCBS uniflow for pistol powder only. I also use the baffle, it varies +/- .1 grains with Winchester WSF powders. I have not used any other devices other than my Chargemaster that I only use with stick powders, which is what I use in my rifle loads, so I would recommend the Uniflow. Good luck.

NO UNIFLOW!

If you are going to go that way with the drum type of dropper, then please get the Hornady Lock N Load. It is just like the uniflow, but improved. You can change out the rotors and charge tubes WAY faster and easier then the Uniflow; you can insert a drain to dump your powder back into the bottle on the LNL, you can get a powderfunnel.com universal flaring bushing and flare .22 cal to 500. You can hold more powder also in the LNL. The only real drawback to having the LNL is that the powder tube is a thinner plastic and if you are not careful, it might pop out of the dropper, so make certain that it is inside all the way and watch out with your dies. If you load 45 acp on a Lee die and it BUMPS hard, POLISH it (the Lee die) and make it butter smooth.

I second the Uniflow... Use the appropriate small or large drum and your good to go.

I've got(in order of preference) an older redding 3, an LNL, and a couple uniflows. They all work well but the redding just seems the most consistent with the widest variety of powders....of course it also costs twice as much.

Okay. I remember Big Bronco talking about how they updated it but it looks like you need to buy one or the other.

FOR the price, the quick change uniflow appears to beat the LNL. Because for the LNL you ONLY get one assembly, and then you gotta spend about another $65 to get another drum and tube and drain.

The QUICK change Uniflow sells for around $87 or so and that puts it about $10-$15 more than the LNL, but the components that are bundled are worth it.

SO, I can see changing my opinion to the uniflow QC. I do not have one but maybe I will buy one next time. The same linkage for Hornady will work with the uniflow or other drum droppers for that matter.

i have been reloading with a rcbs uniflow for 15+ years. On granular or flake powder it will throw exactly to 1/10 a grain which is the accuracy of my scale. I still check every 10th throw when loading my pistol powders as a precaution but it has been perfect for me. On extruded powders it will crush/break some and not throw as accurate but that is what the trickle charger is for.

I love my Uniflow, but I did have to get the small cylinder and a powder baffle to stay consistent with light charges (under 5 grains).

Another user of the uniflow. Have decent results with ball or small grain powder. Stick is a but of a crunch, but that's just the powder and as far as I know throwers crunch across the board.
