    Drill trimming

Anyone use the trimmer system that gets connected to an electric drill?

Lee has a system and there's a product called "the worlds greatest trimmer".

I've got a Lyman that is a manual but has an adapter to hook a drill too it. Just been too lazy to buy the adapter. Pretty good trimmer for the most part.

But I do see a lot of guys who like the Lee and talk nothing but good about it.. But then again kinda reminds me of the FL trend when I keep seeing "best trimmer ever made" and "nothing else compares". Always get me a little skeptical when I see that.

Never heard of the Lee "worlds greatest trimmer" but I have heard of the Little Crow Gunworks "Worlds Finest Trimmer."

The WFT was a very popular seller when I worked at Creedmoor.
I have never used one myself but I got great feedback from my customers about them.

Yes the Lee trimmer is awesome. My dad no longer will use his Lyman.

I did some resreach on the Lee Delux trimmer that goes into the press and will be adding that to my bench.

the lee trimmer was great for about 1000 223 rounds but all cases spin free of the holder and the lee cutter got dull and started more forming the cut into a ring i then used it for 308 and it was only sharp 300 rounds

also the lee debur tool barely survived 800 rounds before instead of cutting it started rounding over i resorted to using a mill bastard for outside debur after using the lee to form the burr outward

i got a possum hollow trimmer with power adapter so far workin great
also the lyman trimmer fits in the power adapter too

now my biggest problem is crimped primers that i ream out with hornady small pocket tool yet sometime i get a crooked primer or one that just stops with 2mm to go

I use the Lee trimmers to make plinking ammo, I use my WFT to convert 223 to aac brass (cuts off a lot of material fast but needs vld deburr), and use Forster 3in1 with still attachment for making nicer ammo. Forster by far the slowest but extremely consistent when I'm paying attention to chucking the brass perfectly and its easily adjustable. The wfc benefits from sorting the brass by headstap IMO and I have to use it outside because it throws brass shavings everywhere. If the wfc came out with worlds finest shellholder/grip it would be really great.

                  I use a WFT for .308

I put it in my drill press. It's very reliable for length, but leaves a very square edge on the case mouth. Still have to chamfer and deburr on a separate step. It's an older one that is also caliber specific.

Hence, I also have the Forster Power Trimmer because it is more versatile - I can trim many different cases with it. I'm looking at a Forster 3-in-1 cutter to upgrade and speed up my 223 processing.

I use WFT on my 223 brass. I trim in large batches then I let my fingers rest for a day. I may upgrade to the dillon trimmer one of these days.

I have the lee one that uses the ball trimmer, shellholder, and separate chamfer and debur tool.

Needless to say I have given up on reloading bottlenecks until my Giraud come in 42 days.

Worlds finest trimmer works great, love the bearing insert. A little pricy. Cuts nice, but I would prefer a better end mil.

CTS trimmer has a better end mil then the WFT, cheaper too, but I wasn't a fan of their plastic insert. Cuts clean and square, and you pretty much do not need need to debur if you're using boat tail bullets. If I had a better cordless drill that spun true, I would probably like it more.

The possum hollow is quick and cheap. A little more wobble, but works great for ammo and price can't be beat. I have limited experience with it, but when I did get to use it, I liked it.

I use lee ball cutter and lock to make trim my 9mm Luger cases to make my own 9mm mak cases. The case length gauge will eventually wear down and would need replacing. As soon as 2000 rounds of 223. But you can either buy a new one for 4-5 bucks, or email them and they will send a replacement.

I'm not a high volume shooter, so I don't need the gracey or giraud trimmer, nor do I want to pay the hefty prce tag. Another reason why I won't is some people are just plain snobs about owning one. So it turns me off.

Buy what's on your budget, and shoot a lot

x2 on the CTS. I have had to change the cutter for my 223 trimmer, twice, but it is just a 3/8" end mill. I am running a two flute end mill and it seems to be doing better than the 4 flute that came with the trimmer. CTS was $43 on ebay. I have one for 30-30, 30-06, 223, and 460 mag. It takes 20 seconds to change out the trimmer on my motorized base, or a drill, and you don't have to ever readjust, unless you change the cutter. It is the best combo of speed and cost. I don't have to debur either, as other loading processes will knock the burr off. The 223 brass has more burr than the 30 cal or 45 cal.

I have both the Lee trimmer and the CTS. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Lee is much cheaper and you can use the same cutter and base, then just by the length gauge and shell holder. But the CTS is WAYYYYYY FASTERRRRR. CTS has to be used in large batches, since the length depends on the location of the shoulder (how far is is pushed back) since there is some variance within the SAAMI spec, while the Lee is always consistent in its overall length, since it is a fixed length. Lee can be used on small base sized brass or regular sizing, whereas the CTS states specifically not to use it on small base sized brass. This is because of how it gauges off the shoulder.

To make a long story short, the Lee is a good trimmer at an outstanding price, but it is a little slow compared to a CTS or WFT. As for the Dillon and Giraud...I am jealous of those of you that own those. They are in a completely different league from the Lee, CTS and WFT.
