How to trim down .22lr cases? Anyone?

Looking for specific ways to trim down the length of 22lr cases. Like, maybe mine are a tad long, so I want to trim them down to be a few mm shorter. Is there a tool that will do that cleanly and quickly and give me repeatable results time after time?

Just curious, I am running across more an more 22lr magnum shells and I enjoy derimming them thinking that I get to make a 120gr .224 outta it... :O

Would a .223 die hold the 22LR brass tight enough for an easy dremel cut-off? Carbide should hold up.

Put in the brass case mouth down and run the die up against something solid in your press. Seating depth would be repeatable and the cutoffs would be pushed into the die by the next case.

funny, it has gotten to the point that by just reading the title I can tell when stilly posts...



I think that the only way you are going to get something repeatable would be to make it yourself - I have a few ideas, but that would all depend on what tools you have available.


a block of steel with the appropriate size holes would be a start for a guide.

How'bout a Lee trimmer for a 25 or 32 Auto turned down to fit

If you have a table top drill press and a mill end may work. You just find a way to secure the .22lr brass on the press table.
