    Lead Shot makers

I have been looking for quite a while at lead shot price and it just seems to get more expensive. Has anyone on here every tried to manufacture their own shot? I have seen a few DIY kits and legit ones, but not sure if the of the complexity or cash outlay required to start. I am leaning toward DIY on a burner and just purchasing the dripped bolts....what do you guys think?

I think it is a huge investment for a small payoff.

You also need to have good quality lead and no garbage in it, also keep it going and your lead level high, also a huge tank of atf for the shot to pile up into also also also...

Yeah If you are bored I say go for it, but I recall the 7 or so drip station lead shot maker movie being fun to watch, but to hell with that for the money...

Appreciate the input. I do have a line on clean lead. I think the Littleton is too expensive as it already manufactured for the task. I already have burner also...I might try to take a stab at it.

You can make a fairly successful one yourself but, if you have to buy the lead it is not worth it. You can get recycled lead shot for around 30 dollars a bag and that is hard to beat. I made some just to see if I could and you can do it but it cost more than buying recycled.

When you have some time read this: http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=15776
There is a lot of good info there.

When they get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, they will become corrupt as in Europe."

There is also MORE to making shot then you might think, you have to have the temps just right also else your shot will come out dimpled or there will be other issues. But yeah, if you have a huge supply or lead and it is clean and ready to go, then by all means, go for it if you have the money to burn. But buying lead is freaking expensive and that kinda kills it for me... I can get lead sheets for $2.06/lb and that is cool, but still expensive when I can go get wheel weights from elsewhere for like $1.00 /lb...

At $2.06/# for sheet lead you are almost ahead of the game to buy new lead shot, and reclaimed would be cheaper. I have been buying reclaimed shot for $25/25#bag.
