hmmm i wonder what happened to the guy that made a tumbler out of a $3 ice cream maker he found at a garage sale...
this for sure. Also set your drying rack on it, so that folds flat too.

No more buckets & ammo cans to support the rotator dowel. This long weekend I built the supports for the media separator.

I went with simplicity for this project. This is a dedicated fixture in my garage, so no need for it to pull double duty re: sawhorses. These are two 8' 2x4's cut into 32 / 24 / 13 / 13 / scrap lengths and held together with 3" deck screws.

The tray at the bottom was 36" long 24" wide, not 48" as I mistakenly remembered it to be.

I included 4" tabs on either side of each support so I could put a perpendicular foot on each end, or even tie both supports together with one 2x4 on each side.

The height will be right around 19" with a 2x4 under each support as described above, but it works as-is just fine. I had to max out at about 22" in order to be at the optimal height for the mixer to dump into it. I could have gone a bit higher, but I was thinking about having good clearance, not jamming my hand into the mixer or the separator while turning it, etc.

I'll just add stability with better feet, as well as perhaps a cross brace or even a third vertical support in the center of each.

Cost for supports was < $6.00 in lumber + about $2 for the metal parts so far. I need to figure out if I am going to make the whole thing mobile and/or secure both supports to each other.

Right now a 27 gallon tote (which the tumbler cage was originally built to rest on) will slip right under there for easy open/close operations. The shallow plastic tote is better to catch water & media in because it's longer & wider, and is a better height.

                Why thank you.

I was shooting for something similar, although I have to say my media separation so far seems superior to Jerry's. hahahahahha Ok, to be fair, he doesn't talk about whatever he does, but I'm fine with ending the comparison right there. I'll quit while I'm ahead.

I recently added three cross-beams further securing the bottom of the legs of the table. Then I added six caster style wheels to it, to make moving it around a one-person job instead of calling my son downstairs whenever I needed to move the beast.

And, I just picked up a pair of mirrored closet doors from someone on CraigsList for free locally. At least one of those will make a nice addition underneath the brass so when I put it outside the sun will dry it from both directions - top down and bottom up.

I'll post pics in a bit.

That drying table would also work great for drying hops.

Yes I would also double up that. Enter support leg with another that is shorter and fits under the 2x4 but make sure to screw both legs together. Intern making that center support a 4x4

OK, here's the latest set of photos.

First, I sealed what I had already built. Had I thought this through a bit better, I would have sealed each individual piece first, then assembled. I did this about 6 weeks ago or so. I actually had to wait for a day above 50 degrees here in TX. How odd.

Then I took apart the two flat furniture dollies I had lying around. Even with as much as I have moved in recent years, I really hadn't gotten an appreciable amount of use from those things, and frankly the casters by themselves are actually MORE expensive. So, I took these apart instead.

I put cross braces on the bottom of the 6 legs across the width of the table - on the ends and in the middle. I predrilled for the caster pins, then attached the casters. I've got 2 more left as spares or for other projects. I also added two cross braces at the same level (vertically) with the interior 2x4's that run the length of the table. That'll let me add a piece of plywood or other interior floor. Looking at the picture here, you can see how bowed that center piece of wood was. Should've turned that one over. Might do that later.

Most recently, I grabbed a couple freebie mirrors from CraigsList. These were closet door type mirrors - and one of them is cracked. They are about 78"x30" and the table is 96"x35". Once I have a floor panel in there, I'll remove some of the hardware, clean the mirrors, and at least tape over that crack.

If I can support the mirrors right, and give them a bit of an angle while still fitting both in there, I can have this table doing double duty drying brass with the Texas sunshine from above & below.

I know when I sealed it, it dried quickly in the sunshine. And since I included black drawer liner material over the hardware cloth, it's going to soak up heat and light really well. The brass will never know what hit it.
