reloading noob...advice before wasted $$$

go easy on me, im sure this is the equivalent to asking where i can get an oll.
im looking to start reloading(mostly just 300aac blackout and maybe .223) i have been looking at single stage presses but with so many im wondering what i should be looking at in presses. any advice on presses or just reloading in general is greatly appreciated

Pick up a brand name kit.

Lee redding RCBS the standards. I have a prefer RCBS for the stuff included in their middle and higher end kits followed by redding but redding seems to be a bit more pricey.

So my vote is RCBS Rock chuck supreme or higher kits. Get a caliper, redding dies and have at it.

now for a real noob question do all dies fit all presses or is there some kind of adapter needed? i ask because 300blk dies seem far and few between so im thinking ill have to take what i can get for now

I reload for 300AAC on a single stage press. Even though I have 3 progressive presses the most fun I have reloading is development with a single stage.

Start out by reading a reloading manual first so you're familiar with the process.

Check out the RCBS Rock Chucker reloading set. It has 95% of the equipment you need to get started.

Make sure they are 7/8ths they all are standard except some Dillon and some Lyman that I own. There may be more but they are super rare. I use every brand around.

i appreciate the help. when it comes to tools ive learned to ask those who are experienced and i dont mind spending a little more for quality but at the same time i figure a single stage will help me focus on each step at a time. after lots of research i think im ready to pull the trigger.

any other advice on reloading in general is still greatly appreciated

Singe stage is perfect for developing loads and learning the basics that can be carried on to a progressive

300 and .223 do not require a lot of speed like pistol ammo does.

The RCS should suit you fine. ELSE if they are out goto FSRELOADING and get the Lee Classic Cast for around $93 + shipping. That is supposedly even better than the RCS... Guess it only depends on whether or not you want red or green for your press... Lyman and Redding are good also, but a bit higher priced.

You will always want a single stage press, even if you have a progressive. Nothing wrong with starting out on a single stage.

Buy the Lyman 49th and read the reloading section before you buy anything else, it will help you figure out what you need and what you don't.

When you are ready to buy, I also suggest RCBS. I got the combo kit because I knew there'd be lots of random parts I wouldn't know are needed but which the kit includes. Yes most dies are interchangeable so you could use a Lee die in a RCBS, however I stick with them because of the excellent customer service. I broke a pin once, totally my fault, but a quick call to them resulted in them sending replacement parts free of charge.
