    hp-38 or win. WST powder

I can get my hands on both powders, but what s the best for reloading 9mm and 45acp? I have not used either powders. Reloads will be used for plinking using 115gr. hp's and fmj's for the 9 and 230gr RN for the 45.

HP38 might as well be the same as W231. Great for 9x19, 45, 40, 38spl, 357mag (low pressure) loads. I tested many others, keep coming back to these.

WST is a good one for shotgun and lower pressure pistol loads. But not as versatile as HP38 as the general pistol powder.

I like WST. That stuff gives some good .45 acp loads as well as some good 9m loads.

I haven't tried WST but I have used HP-38. It burns the cleanest of all the ones that I have tried. (Bullseye, Bluedot, Trail Boss were all dirtier.)

HP-38 has nice small flakes that meter out very consistently.

HP38 has 900% more data available than WST.

WST is for experienced reloaders with a solid understanding of internal ballistics. Mere mortals cannot handle the awesomeness which is WST. U have to be a reloading super hero to even think about WST.

WST is cleaner burning but HP 38 is more versatile. I use both and they're both great for 9mm and 45 ACP.

I use HP-38/W231 for all of my 9mm and 45acp. Very accurate loads for both.

HP-38/W231 is super versatile, and has a lot of recipes published. It works great for all kinds of pistol loads and has published data for

                            .380, 9mm, .38, .357, .40, .44 mag, .45 acp, 10mm

So basically every caliber out there.

WST on the other hand is a fantastically awesome powder for .45acp. so cool, so clean. But besides .45acp there are virtually no other *published* loads for other calibers. I'm not saying the load data doesn't exist -- recipes are out there, on forums, etc. But they are not in any official source -- none of the major books or official internet sites.

There are two schools of thought here -- some will say there must be a reason why the powder companies don't publish WST data for other calibers. Others will say they just haven't gotten around to developing/testing for the other calibers.

anyways it sounds like you are kind of new to reloading (apologies if that is not the case). I'd start with HP-38/W231 just so you'll have a good versatile powder to have in your inventory. If you end up loading .45acp then you can always add WST later. Oh one other thing, I've seen WST demand is a lot less than HP-38/W231 -- so another reason to get HP-38/W231 if you know it is in stock somewhere.

Get both... part of the fun of reloading is being able to try different things. You never know, a new powder might surprise you and become your new favorite.
