don't want a lesson on how to use them, just recommendations on other tools.
If you don't want some resistance on what might have gone wrong and how to get better results, then maybe the Lee slam should be edited out and you should just ask about the best hand primer.

I don't see how a primer goes sideways unless using the large primer assembly for small primers or a tray cover is loose. ICBW but then you might not be interested in explaining further.

I use Lee primer on the press, only time they go in sideways is if my son is helping. Seriously, I've never pressed on in sideways with this tool.

Lee auto prime works good I'am using a old one& scavenging parts off a new one. My press priming tools work conviently on my rock chuck & 4x4.

been using the lee hand tool for years and aside from no liking certain cases, 8x56r comes to mind, it works fine. ones that don't fit in it well I just prime on the press, also a lee, with no trouble. possibly operator problem?

Bubba la, if you don't want the Ergo Prime I will buy it. $20 sound fair? I use the Auto Prime but my thumbs get sore after a while...

I have both type of lee hand primers. It's nice to sit on the couch with the wife and watch a movie while we're priming a couple thousand cases.

I recently added an RCBS bench mounted automatic priming tool. A bit tedious loading the primer tubes, but after that it works really slick. Good feel, good primer pick up, uses standard shell holders.

I've been using the Lee Autoprime for 25 years and from time to time I run into the same problem as the OP of an occasional primer going in backwards. It doesn't happen all that often, since I normally keep an eye on the primer tray while priming, but every once in a while one will flip when its on the ram area of the Autoprime, so I don't see it until after seating. It makes a pretty distinct feeling when it goes in backwards, so I always set that case aside to be deprimed.

As inconvenient as it is, especially during this primer shortage, it doesn't happen often enough for me to switch tools. If me Lee ever breaks, I'll consider the RCBS, since it uses standard shell holders. But the fact that I've been using the same tool for 25 years is testament to Lee manufacturing a quality product.

Heck yeah! I go shooting every weekend at Oak Tree, but am open to Angeles too.

We really need to get another class going. Seems like there's no shortage of students. I'd also like to learn about casting and shot shell reloading if we do something beyond the intro course in the future.

Really? I can't stand mine. It seats the primer too shallow, and it's pointing right at your face. Called RCBS and they sent me a new rod for large primers and it helped a little, but even then, it seems a bit shallow. I've also seated primers sideways with the RCBS.

It also will sometimes "double stack" primers, which is both dangerous, and annoying. Don't know what to tell you is a good alternative. I've always heard good things about the Lee primer.
