    Some issues with rounds .223

Hey guys.. so I was at the range today shooting off my reloads.. I had a problem with about 5-7 rounds...

I would pull the trigger... (hits the firing pin but nothing) I go to pull the charging handle to get the round out and its jammed... I had to use the edge of the table and tap the AR to get the round out.

What could be causing this problem??

    Thanks

you might need to check your resizing/trimming of your cases. are you using a case gauge checker? This tells you if your brass is trimmed to the correct length, and if you will have headspace issues. I think this is your problem.

Sounds like a headspace issue, or your cartridge overall length may be a little off on these few rounds. Can you see a mark on your primers from the firing pin, if not your bolt probably didn't close completely when you these rounds chambered.

Yes the firing pin did not strike the primer.. how would I fix this headspace issue?

No I do not.. I am new to reloading so to be honest man I am not quite sure what headspace is.

If the present batch of reloads are the only ones you have had problems with I would check the case dimensions. Use a case gauge, the dies might have moved and you have under sized the brass.

you must trim after resizing or when i am lazy check each case length is under 1.759 and pick out ones longer to deal with later

Maybe those 5-7 of them I didnt trim them enough? I usually trim my brass between 1.760-1.750

Use your full length sizing die then trim brass to 1.750-1.755.

check the length of the cases that failed to go, invest in a headspace gauge and go to youtube and search headspace, lots of videos explaining what it is and why its important.

Try adjusting the sizing die down a bit more. Especially if you have mixed brass coming from other rifles also.
Some of the newer loaders may flame away on this but I have never owned a case guage/headspace guage and have never had problems. Except when I was stupid and used the seater die in the wrong press and krinkled some shoulders. Been loading for many years and many different cartridges for many types of actions.
You may also need a small base sizing die.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Yup I do the same, why trim every case if they are within tolerance? Never bother buying a headspace gage ether because 5.56x45 brass wont work in a .223 gage.
