Anyone have a JR3 from RCBS?

What is it good for? I mean, it is heavy iron I guess and I was going to use it to swage primer pockets and prolly resize some .223 but I am curious if anyone else has one of these and what they use them for? I think I might also use this for resizeing my 50 AE and other stuff that I do not want to do on the LCT.

Also, I was looking at the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme or the Reloader-5 and also picking up a piggyback progressive for it. Anyone else do that for theirs?

I am just dreaming right now because I have 0 income but I want to get this stuff going when I get my Tavor so that I can have plenty of ammo to shoot it.

I have the RCBS jr press and use it to seat rifle rounds as I get better feel with it than with my RCBS rockchucker. I also size/load pistol rounds I do not do on the Dillon 650. Great little press. I size my rifle brass on the rockchucker.
I have a friend who has the piggyback units and had to send both of his to RCBS to get then to work right. He has 2 because he learned to not try and change cartridges on them. You would be better off with a Hornady or Dillon unit. Then again if you are a lee person get one of their units.

I have on and use it for 308 loading and sometimes do 223. It's a good press and will load good ammo. I also use it to show people how reloading works

I have one as well, and it's old. I still use it for sizing cast bullets, loading .308, and other odd jobs that a single stage press is useful for.

It is a great little press it will do most anything. The Rock Chucker is overbuilt and was originally designed for swagging.

Hmmm. I was going to use this JR3 for also swaging .224 bullets from 22lr brass and for swaging general 9mm shells into 40 cal and up the ladder to eventually making .50AE bullets out of 45 ACP.

Can this press handle that stuff too? After swaging a few primer pockets tonight it feels pretty solid but I am not liking on the handle. Like a little stick, I like the ones with the big ol knob on top like the rock chucker or the LCT... I mounted this press to a piece of 3/8th steel that is about 2" off from the work bench. It does flex the surface just a little but until I get a better place for it this will prolly do.

stilly it wont work for swaging bullets. It will sheer off the handle at the bottom from all the pressure you need a better built H press for that. as for brass prep itll work fine for that.

I bought it a YEAR ago to have a secondary press or just to mess around with a singlestage.

It DOES primer pocket swage very nicely, so maybe I will keep it until I get the swaging dies and then get a RC or something.

I hope by H you do not mean Hydraulic because the stuff I have seen have been coming off of regular presses, or maybe corbin presses that only cost around $200-$300 or so.

The jr. is cast aluminum body with steel linkage. Good press but a bit taxed forming brass.

OH time out. MAYBE the regular JR is, but not mine, mine is a JR3.

Hmmm. So it looks like an upgrade then would be the Breech Lock Classic Cast Single Stage Press By Lee Precision.

its the lever system that breaks cause it doesnt have mechanical advantage. the guys on the cast reloading forum recommended this one for swaging

My mistake. I meant the RS3 (Reloader Special). Mine has loaded a lot of ammo from pistol thru belted magnums. I mostly use my Redding turret (T7) now though.

Had mine since 1974, reloads everything from 32 acp to 45/70. Countless rounds reloaded with no maintenance other than some spray lube every 5 years or so.
