    Carbide or Steel?

I'm hoping to pick up a 30 carbine soon and want to reload for it. Since it not a bottle neck case I'm wondering if carbide might be better.

What type of die do you recommend?

Yes the carbide is nice since you do not have to lube the brass. I use the RCBS carbide dies and they work well.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

On straight wall cases I always use carbide. A very slight $ premium for increased functionalilty.

I'd love to reload for mine but good luck finding brass for it. I would recommend going carbide as well as it is nothing more than a glorified pistol cartridge after all, in fact Ruger used to make and may still make a Blackhawk single action chambered in 30 carbine.

Since you are speaking of the 30 carbine, thought I'd mention the following.

In Dillon's Blue Press that I received today there is a very good article on the History re the .30 carbine.

Worth the time in looking at it.

If they offer carbide then there is no question about it.
Carbide. I got some brass and I plan to NEVER use it (hint hint for OP only) Not much but I picked it up at Riverside Magnum Range.

Powder should be what? H-110 I thought and then some 30 carbine projectiles from Xtreme perhaps?

            What can go wrong?

You may want to consider the pull-down 110 gr FMJ from Poly Gun Bags. They have 500 for $55, plus shipping. Their link is: http://www.polygunbag.com/bullets.html .

Good luck on finding brass. The last 2k that I bought was from Mike at Mastercast but they are now OOS. ( http://www.mastercast.net/ftp.master...omponents.html )

Poly FTW. They have usually had decent offerings in the past.

Just wondering? Where did you find carbide dies for 6.5X55/30-40Krag/7.5Swiss/6.5 & 7.7Jap/the different mags and such?

I also think you can get 30carbine brass from starline but not 100% sure. You would need to look at their website.

definitely carbide. I still run my finger over a block of canning wax every 5th or so case to help it resize like butter, but no need to. Lube does make a big difference even with carbide dies.

Thanks for the feedback guys, carbide dies it is. Now the hunt begins for carbide dies that are in stock.

Stilly, thanks for the offer on the brass, I'll take it! I'm going to look for some H110 or Winchester 296 since those seem to be the preferred powders for 30 carbine. I'm not sure if plated bullets will be ok or not. The velocity I've seen on published loads is in excess of what the plated rounds suggest. The pull down bullets mentioned sound like a good deal as long as they don't attract a magnet.

I'm meeting the guy tomorrow to look at the M1 carbine, can't wait. It's been on my want list for quite a while and now that the 1/1/14 date is looming for ending all FTF C&R sales (along with all the other crap legislation heading our way) I finally got motivated to get one.

Carbide dies are the best for straight wall cases. It is best to pay a little more to skip the lube step. I use carbide dies for all my pistol loading. The carbide dies work exceptionally well.

I use steel dies for all my bottle neck cases. In general, I load fewer round during a session for bottle neck rifle as compared to pistol
