All I use is Wheel weights, sometimes add just a touch of tin.
Don't know to many people that do not use wheel weights.
They make oh so Purty Boolits

          Nice work!

I don't use wheel weights but I only cast round balls for muzzloaders and C&B pistols. I need the soft stuff.

I cast from 9mm to 50 cal and 12 gauge.

Lead loves to fly, set your wheel weights free.

No need to make things complicated or scare away interested parties in a thread asking for OPINION rather than instruction. The thread is just commiseration at this point anyways.

Yeah, if he wanted full data he'd follow the link to the cast boolit forum (which is excellent). No need for a full primer here, especially since he was just curious as to if people actually do this.

I think the only thing to add is that in addition to pure lead which can be had from a variety of companies (I use a company maybe a mile from here) if you are OK with somewhat dodgy lead that's been recovered from wheel weights you can just buy the stuff already smelted into ingots. It's because of the miracle of the priority mail flat rate box - you can put 40 pounds of lead into the small flat rate box that's maybe $5-$6, I forget what it's running right now. The lead itself is maybe a buck a pound, maybe a little more. So you can get a box of 40 pounds of lead ingots delivered to your door for less than $50.

OP was about using wheel weights for boolits...
