    >help with .45acp loads

I loaded up some .45's with Win 231 4.8 grs, 230 grn .451 Remington bullet, OAL 1.263 and they weren't cycling well at all, any ideas.

Are they not feeding or ejecting? Oal seems a little long for light of a charge. Id eother increase the charge slightly or. Reduce oal. But per my books that charge should work fine. It all depends on your specific gun.

What specifically do you mean by not cycling well? Are you getting malfunctions? FTF, FTE, etc . . .

Does this gun normally operate reliably?

they are not ejecting well. Some are and some are not. This is a Kimber pro Carry and it is always reliable when using factory ammo. never a problem

Are you using FMJ bullets or lead? The Hodgdon site shows both the .451 and .452 bullet loads for 230 gr at 1.200 COL- I use 1.250 for 230gr round lead bullets probably the same for FMJ.
I have an 18 pound spring in my Kimber(s).
You might try a couple of different charges and a couple of different lengths?
Measure the COL of the factory stuff you have- it will probably be 1.265 +/-
You might even load up a couple rounds at 5.2grs. and see if the make your pistol snap a little!

I have had great luck with 4.8g of W231 with 230rn seated towards the max OAL. 4.8g is a lighter load but should cycle in your weapon. Do your rounds pass the "plunk test" no problem?

If it's failing to eject well, there isn't enough "oomph" in your rounds to cycle the slide all the way back, allowing time and space for the empty case to extract, and then forward again to load the next round.

Solution is to bump up the charge of powder or use a weaker recoil spring.

                    Too long?

Try them closer to 1.249 and see if that makes a difference. I run mine around 1.250

OH, if they are not ejecting then I agree with the others, you need a stouter load.

My Operator has dones this to me once in a while, if I am shooting reloads (which is always) it might sometimes not have enough power to recoil all the way back and as such it does NOT let go of the shell and goes forward with the shell still in its extractor. The only thing I can really do is pull back and manually rack it so the shell hits the ejector and goes flying, then it will load the next round. Otherwise it is like that dog that does not want to let go or the newspaper when it brings it to you...

Seems like too light a load and oak too short.

                      I run 5.4gr w231 @ 1.25.
