I would be way cheaper to use propane instead of induction heating.

I use the cordless drill, deep socket, & propane torch method as well. As far as determining temp, I use brush on Tempilaq. I paint a line just below the shoulder & heat the neck while spinning the brass in the socket w/ the drill on low speed. If you do it enough, you can do it w/o the Tempilaq. I started doing it just to learn how, then started doing it to see if made any difference in case life. It does help, especially when reforming brass from one case to another, like forming 8x57 Mauser from 30-06.

What steps do you do to reform 30-06 to 8x57? What dies?

I use a full length die set for 8x57 Mauser. The 30-06 brass is annealed to about 1/2" below the shoulder. I lube & run the cases thru the 8x57 sizer die w/o the neck expander & you end up w/ a very long necked case. I then cut the neck w/ a tubing cutter to rough length. After deburring & lubing the neck, I run the cases thru the sizing die again w/ the expander installed & trim to final length w/ a case trimmer. Depending on the cases used, neck turning may be required as part of the neck is now where the shoulder was.
30-06 brass is used as the parent case for several case conversions.

If your getting casehead separations your dies are not adjusted correctly or don't fit your chamber.
