who's reloading 7.62x39 ?

What is it costing you per round to reload the 7.62x39? This is the only round that I currently do not reload. I am going to start looking for components to see how much it's going to be to reload. The steel rounds are still pretty cheap and pretty easy to find still. What are you guys using for bullets, powder, etc... Any recipes? grains, oal?

My good friend loads it. Boxer and berdan, it's cheaper to just buy Tula or golden tiger at $5 a box than it is to reload it

I have used 123gr .311 hornady sp, 24gr imr4198, fiochi brass, and CCI large rifle primer. That has worked well in my yugo SKS.

Yeah, at ~$1/round shipped is too much for me. I had bought a case of golden tiger from them and they didn't have PPU or American Eagle available at that time.

With the way pricing is I think I'm ok for now with reloading 7.62.

I resorted to reloading the Yugo berdan brass cases. They are very heavy duty cases. I did however, manage to score the last brick of 5000 berdan primers for that case from Grafs. Keep an eye out as bricks of those primers do show up but people want tooooooooo much for them

Depriming is fairly easy. Get a hardened 1/16 steel punch and grind it slowly so as not to ruin the heat treat, down to about half the diameter so it will fit in the flash hole. The flash hole is fairly large. You can simply punch the primer out from the inside.

Keep watching gunbroker for projectiles . . . I just found a thousand for $100. Some would say that is expensive but you pay what you pay.

Experiment with other powders besides the AA1680

I pulled down 1200 rounds of 7.62x45 and worked up a load using that surplus powder and a chrony. I know that is not an option for most but there are ways to get the costs down.

It really depends on your purpose for reloading. If you're looking to reload to save money, 7.62x39 is not the best caliber to try to do that with. However, if you have a 7.62x39 AR, which are notorious for feeding issues, then you might get better reliability/accuracy if you load for it.

Seems expensive at first, but when you think that you're going to be able to reload that stuff about 10 times (at least), that lowers the cost significantly...

It's a challenge finding components. All the surplus is Berdan primed, so it's not practical for most of us to try to re-use those cases.

Also, finding bullets is tough. Here's a link to one supplier, but at a cost of $272 per k, you can buy ammo ready to shoot for that kind of money. So in theory, while you can hand load better ammo than you can buy, it's difficult to load x39 ammo cheaper than store-bought ready-to-shoot ammo.

I have 100 boxer primed cases I guard like a hawk. I got some plated 125 grain bullets for around $100.

I only wish I'd saved my berdan primed brass.

I bought all of my components years ago, when Wolf was $150/1k and cheap, so I'm not into it too heavily, but people always laughed at me when I told them I could reload it.

I wanted to reload the cartridge just because I could and while I don't shoot my AK as much any longer, you can find people selling off x39 boxer cases either 1x, or new, so while a bit spendier than other cartridges, brass is out there if you look for a while.

Once you've acquired the brass, it's just like any other cartridge. Get some AA 1680 and knock yourself out. My AK puts a slight crease on my brass just about mid body and so that's something people have to be careful of. Those creases can be deeper on some rifles, than others and reloading that brass might be a concern for some of us here.

What are you looking for? .54 a round? Lowest I've seen it even before the panic was 9.99 a box, you get to shoot it then reload it.

Or because you cant shoot the magnetic stuff at the range. Its near impossible to find the non-magnetic stuff anymore. I still have a box of Wolf Yellow Box but good luck finding that stuff anymore.
