I find me brain tends to go numb!

But this is my rifle brass procedure

1. Tumble clean
2. Spray lube, put in 1 gallon ZipLock, spray in Franklin Armory case lube & shake shake shake.
3. Resize/Decap
4. Tumble off lube.
5. Trim with a Possum Hollow trimmer, debur & chamfer. For smaller batches i use the Lee case trimmer on a drill. Only if needed though.
6. Reload.
7. Shoot
8. Back to step 1

Yeah, the blisters from prepping rifle brass does suck. I'm definitely thinking mechanics gloves would be a good purchase - or lots of tape.

Lee Deluxe Quick Trim Case Trimmer

I just ordered and used one of these for the first time this week:

Wimp! You're lucky you didn't have to deal with crimped primers. You have to use a special decapping die unless you wanna buy a couple dozen spare decapping pins. Then you have to swage the primer pockets.

Reloading rifle cartridges is a PITA. Absurd prices for loaded factory ammo makes it worthwhile. Back in the good old days you could buy milsurp 7.62x51 ammo for the same amount of money that it would cost to buy the components, which is why I don't have any .308 dies.

I wear some old Fox gloves I used to wear for mountain biking. They're good for wearing at the gym also.

Ha, yea I have done plenty of HXP reloads so I know all about the de-priming, and primer pocket swaging. Just because it hurts my hands doesn't mean I have stopped, and I'm not going to spend money on fancy tools either. I have a means to get the job done cheaply, and will continue to do it that way. I just wanted to ***** while I was at it!

At the reloading clinic I attended last week, on the very first shell i put in the resizing die, the decapping pin bent into a perfect little "U"

I learned that lesson early...invested in a Lee decapping die and 5 spare pins. But now I know about crimped primer pockets and swaging. Good thing too, since I have a couple hundred rounds of surplus that I'll be reloading!

I've deprimed at least 400 HXP's all with the same decapper. I don't use the resizer/decapper though so that helps i'm sure.

Do everything in batches. I generally do these steps in different days.

Deprime/SS tumble
Resize/wash off lube in bucket (water & dish soap & lemishine)
Trim/Chamfer/Deburr
Prime/load

Electric prep centers work great and save your hands. I have a Lyman and it works excellent. Just get yourself some gloves that stick. Will help you out a lot in the long run.

I also got a Gracey coming to me next week which should make my life a lot easier when making bulk 223.

Do you at least have a drill to chuck the pocket swager in? I use my drill for swaging, trimming, and then leave the brass in the drill for chamfering and deburring too. It is a little slow, but works well.
